 If you look in a dictionary both "AEROPORTO" (most used) or "AREOPORTO" are possible. In the past the former was more commn. Now it is the opposite.

I know it's possible, but I always seen it only on old vocabularies, never "for real".

 Caro ElSaxo, si usava molto di più una volta in effetti. Chiederò notizie ad un mio amico filologo. Lo stesso, se ci pensi, riguarda "AREOPLANO" e "AEROPLANO". Io sono stato abituato ad usarli entrambi anche perchè ho abitato nella mia infanzia e adolescenza in molte parti diverse dell'Italia e ricordo di avere sentito fino ad una trentina di anni fa entrambi i termini nelle due accezioni. Sull'elenco telefonico di Bologna ricordo fino ai primi anni '80 il Rag. (ometto il cognome molto comune) Aeroplano, cui un mio amico ed io anni prima facemmo uno scherzetto telefonico da adoloscenti, avvertendolo che, causa le nebbia, sarebbe stato costretto ad atterrare ad Ancona. Il poveretto ci mandò giustamente al diavolo affermando che veniva disturbato da decenni e appurammo che era nato un anno o due dall'invenzine dell'aereo.

 Grazie per il divertente aneddoto!
Più che altro pensavo "areoporto" che fosse utilizzato principalmente in Svizzera, differentemente da in Italia (come ad esempio soprabito/mantello o il/la meteo) e non sapevo che fosse caduto un termine ormai in disuso. Non sono ancora riuscito a controllare i vecchi volcabolari su carta che ho, ma almeno in un caso online me lo dà addirittura specificamente come errato.

Strange.
In French some people use "Aréoport" instead of "Aéroport", but that's just an ugly error :D
