Films of this era and on these subjetcs aren't necessarly all bad despite one may think , and reflects so well the freedom wind blowing at that times... sort of goldenage of happy times far from our present time (the last 20 years) of crisis, unemployment,self-control auto-censorship, fears, risks , aids, religious backing, etc... |

Although I've the opinion, too, that many things back then, in the Cold War times were much better (cars, definitely, absolutely, also music, architecture, design, etc.), you have to admit, that those years were worst about other things, pollution for example, and radioactive contamination (due the many bomb tests over the ground in the 60ies). And much bigger parts of the European citizenships weren't that openminded as nowadays. There was much more localism around (think, how many Nazis and Stalinists were still alive). Movies like this here, were just the first mental relaxations. -- Last edit: 2012-06-07 13:00:13 |

It may sound cynical, but well ... yes ... - the Iron Curtain has caused a quite comfortable life for those on the Western side. The thoughts "If the Third World War will come, it will start exactly here" were just theoretical and usually repressed. The people, who are most disgruntled, that these times are gone, were those, who lived closest to it. The quiet peace is gone, with the empty roads, no thru-traffic and -not to forget- the government-given money. The immediat neighbourhood of the Iron Wall was supported with tax money. |

Les Trente Glorieuses ended in the early 70s. '50 and '60s is what you want. |
