11-minute Children's Film Foundation short about being a kid living in Ayr; seems to be part of a 1950s CFF series for places all round Britain. Can be seen on BFi free website which also has amongst others A Letter from the Isle of Wight and A Letter from Wales, both of which are good fun with some lovely footage and jolly spiffing adventures, but no vehicles for us.

Rejects:

- a bus on the bridge in Ayr

... if anyone can ID what buses Ayr had in 1954, it could get a page for being onscreen long enough

- street scene outside the kirk

Plane for impdb:

- supposed to be the BOAC New York-Prestwick flight (which seems to have launched October 1945 via Goose Bay, Labrador and Meeks Field, Iceland according to this. Seems to be a Lockheed (Super?) Constellation "Bedford" - BOAC's Constellation fleet may all have had town names beginning with B??

Prestwick airfield terminal building - apparently the control tower was built onto the roof of Orangefield House which became the terminal from 1943 until demolition in 1960s.

BOAC's Lockheed Constellation G-AKCE ‘Bedford' was originally a late 1945 troop transport plane [C-69] which was no longer required so bought back from the USAAF and later converted to passenger specification [L-049] into service in 1948.

Apparently these early Constellations still had a restricted range compared with the introduction of [L-649/L-749] aircraft with increased fuel capacity and better engines to make non-stop east to west crossings of the Atlantic possible.

Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellations were introduced in 1951.
