“A stupider lot of misfits, untrained soda jerks I never did see.”

Effectively a US Navy recruitment movie (no experience necessary even for officers, and it's all fun and games and boxing tournaments) although it must be said it was inspired by one man's actual experiences commanding a submarine (turned submarine chaser for the movie; I suppose it was easier and cheaper to film on the surface). It's quite an entertaining movie, actually.

Impressive cast, including debuts from Harvey Lembeck, Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson. The always reliable IMDb suggests Jack Warden makes his debut, too, but then they list him as having appeared in bit parts in Sunset Blvd. and The Asphalt Jungle, both released the year before this movie. I'm glad that's settled.

I ignored the miscroscopic background vehicles except these two forklifts and a ground conveyor:
