At this time UK Government was pushing as hard as it could to promote exports to gain foreign exchange, so new cars were virtually unobtainable by the ordinary person. Even the Hillman and the Jaguar, the only nearly new cars shown, were just warmed over prewar designs, in the case of the Hillman, the chassis dated back to 1932.
