Early Australian movie depicting a mailman's perilous journey through the brutal Birdsville Track. Although presented in the style of an informative documentary, it was heavily fictionalised like the image of a dinosaur skeleton, for example. However, the main character, Tom Kruse is the real mailman who made the journeys in real life and it was filmed on location using the actual trucks he used, which were on first half of the movie a 1936 Leyland Badger, and in the rest of the film, a Ford Canadian Military Pattern, or "Blitz" as they were known in Australia. The Leyland Badger truck still exists and is now in a museum in Adelaide. |
