Filmed and copyrighted in 1971, this road trip/anti-drug movie initially went unreleased as the filmmaker's thought it would bomb at the box office until they ultimately decided to release it direct-to-video in 2001 and wash their hands of it. A priest named John is accidentally given drugs by hippies and after tripping on acid, he decides to leave the parish and go on a road trip where he picks-up a hippie chick and a black unlicensed doctor and they get into misadventures with drugs, hard and soft, until John is all by himself, the hippie chick having ditched him. After being found in an alley by two church volunteers after nodding off on heroin, he is brought to a church rehabilitation clinic where he decides to rejoin the parish and become a priest again, though the hippie chick decides to keep hitching.

This film is not much to write home about. It mostly meanders from scene to scene and there's plenty of scenes where someone just pointed a camera out a car window and just filmed the passing scenery which certainly brought to mind Manos: The Hands of Fate, though this movie is at least two steps above Manos. They at least had sound equipment and the crew actually knew what the fudge they were doing. In fact, that sums up this movie just fine; if Manos: The Hands of Fate was an anti-drug PSA.

Alternate titles include The Psychedelic Priest and Jesus Freak, though outside of the very start and very end, religion doesn't play into the film all that much.

And no, this movie has nothing to do with Fifty Shades of Grey.
