Unexpectedly discovered this gentle cult gem - originally a 1990 Channel 4 (UK) series "In 1968 Elliott Bristow went to New York for a two week holiday. In 1980, after twelve years and 500,000 miles later he returned to England with three trunks containing 75 hours of silent Super 8 film - his diary of this 'holiday'" First episode is good fun, including a man taking his pet dustbin for a drive in a Camaro, superb photography, quirky visual humour. Elliott seems to have had a good eye for capturing landscapes and loads of interesting things (cars, trucks, trains, boats and ships, buildings etc) so a lot to enjoy. Very little commentary, but excellent music soundtrack instead (Leo Kottke, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Rick Wakeman etc). Have picked out most of what struck me as the highlights, but there's loads more which could be captured from a better quality version, and I'm not a US expert who knows what may or may not be sigificant things, so will probably have missed stuff. Well worth watching - pull up one of the youtube episodes and just sit back and enjoy the ride. Have found eps 1, 2, 3 and 6 (of 6) on youtube - no other source discovered - so muddy quality (ex-VHS??) and no sign of eps 4 and 5. Possible re-issue on DVD around 2007 but no trace found, and it seems to be an ongoing project with spin-off book and new versions for tablet etc - possibly with added footage?? http://www.americansc.org.uk/Online/Online_2014/Road_Dreams_Continue.html , https://www.retroroadtrips.com/ , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_Dreams Teletubbies house long before teletubbies were invented Films and a camera (probably not related) -- Last edit: 2020-04-02 04:40:01 |

Anyone get a shot of this house in the Hamptons being moved? www.retroroadtrips.com/productionnotes/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/moved-house.jpg https://www.retroroadtrips.com/productionnotes/location-quiz/who-knows/ -- Last edit: 2020-03-31 05:57:03 |

"In 1968 Elliott Bristow went to New York for a two week holiday. In 1980, after twelve years and 500,000 miles later he returned to England" How did he manage to stay in the US for 12 years? Don't tourist visas usually only last for 6 months? |

^ never really explained. There is some commentary that he began to present the films to audiences, implying it became a commercial project, possibly with sponsorship or grant aid. -- Last edit: 2023-08-20 18:05:25 |

Let joy be unconfined! The previously missing eps 4 & 5 have now appeared on youtube so all 6 are now available. It's still a wonderful series - no gimmickry or flashy techniques, just fascinating and often quirky imagery of people, places, and things. Rejects: 2 probably unidentifiable junked cars in New York - likely the interior is one of them Other things from eps 4 and 5: - a bucking bronco and a genuine 64 Mustang - taking a palm tree for a drive; a strange hut - Stonehenge replica in Washington state - shows what the English one might have looked like if they'd ever finished building it - signs -- Last edit: 2023-08-20 18:14:40 |

It's only a very brief muddy moment in ep 1.06 @ 20-31 - not distinct enough to post for an ID |
