Excellent BBC4 documentary, jam-packed with excellent archive material. Planes for impdb - unexplained inclusion in opening shots - German WW2 stuff as context for the Coventry Blitz (November 1940) |

I second that! But I'm actually stopping by, haunted by the sudden idea "What if @dsl - for some reason - doesn't know these four albums, but might like them?" and just wanted to make sure it's not my fault. I may be completely wrong and you can archive or delete my comment, but something in between the grooves of my regular "working on my car" soundtrack told me this may be right up your lane. OK, back to my car now. |

@AnimatronixX - thanks for the heads up. I knew of Michael Rother somewhere in the background from when I had a big Brian Eno phase, as he did stuff with Cluster and with Roedelius, but had never ventured further. Am now investigating those 4 links. In the meantime can I trade you Nathan Salsburg - particularly Landwerk No.2, but Landwerk (No.1) and Third are pretty good. Also having a bulk discovery of Hiroshi Yoshimura - everything he's done seems good so far with no duds, but Green, Quiet Forest, Flora 1987, Face Music are all hitting my buttons at the moment. |

^ PS - am liking Flammende Herzen on first play through, but I wonder if he might have sold a few more records if he'd made an effort to produce interesting album covers - they all make him look like a second-rate cruise ship dance band. |

Yeah, agreed, he isn't the genius of self-marketing. Also, "Michael Rother" sounds like the neighbour on the first floor you borrow tomatoes from. Anyway, glad you like some of my suggestions. I'm currently trying my luck with Mr. Salsburg and Landwerk II sounds really good, but he samples and loops lead-in grooves and I wish he wouldn't do that... Yoshimura seems more promising from what I've read - will give it a try over the next days! |
