Released in 1980, but most of the footage was filmed in the early 70s. For more info, see this thread over at autosport.com Various shots of 1930s/40s races in Argentina. According to Fangio himself, most cars are modified Fords and Chevrolets. The owner of the shop where 13yo Fangio got his first job, in 1924. In the set of thumbs of the 'shop where 13 yo Fangio got his first job' the proprietor must have been a Studebaker agent. The cars are all 1927 Studebakers. |

There seem to be several versions of Fangio's early life. This one - Link to "www.encyclopedia.com" - says he competed in his first race when he was 16, as a mechanic in a Plymouth. The first Plymouth was announced in July 1928 which was not long after he turned 17. His birthday was 24 June 1911. This car - /vehicle_1144395.html - might be a 1928 Plymouth, but it does not look like it is going racing. I take the info in the encyclopaedia site with a grain of salt because it says in 1936 Fangio built his first race car out of a taxi - 'basically a six cylinder Ford engine in a rusty chassis'. Ford did not build six cylinder engines at that time. Whether it was a four or V8 I guess we will never know. |

He was 19, according to "Fangio: A Pirelli Album" by Doug Nye and Stirling Moss. The driver was his brother-in-law Brujas Font, and the car a '28 Plymouth. At least the date is correct: 24 Oct 1936, on a modified '29 Model A taxi lent by a friend's father. They installed a new 2-seater body, but there is no mention of the engine. /vehicle_1144396-Ford-Model-A-1934.html |
