I think that it roughly means "Bassie & Adriaan and the city swallowed up by the sea"

Well, "lost" is not precise, "verzonken" means more than that, no? Hence "swallowed up by the sea" but there is maybe a better word.

A 'verzonken stad' isn't necessarily swamped by the sea (literal meaning), it can be destroyed otherwise or just abandoned by its residents. Atlantis, Troy and Pompeii are famous examples. ('cité perdue' en français) :)

My dictionary gives just sombré/plongé/noyé as translations for "verzonken" (so "cité submergée"), but I suppose that it is an expression then... but note that on Wikipedia it is translated as "The sunken city"

There's almost the same expression in German for these lost cities ('Versunkene Stadt'). But 'sunken city'? Doesn't sound very common... :miam:
