Seems 1950s understanding of geography was not very advanced. What else is in the series?? "The Mediterranean Community: Introducing New Zealand"?? "The Pacific Community: Introducing Norway"?? |

I'm guessing referring to certain European countries as "NATO member states" or the likes of it was yet to be a thing, which is how we got this clunky name of a series. -- Last edit: 2022-07-19 13:51:53 |

Yes, dsl... N.A.T.O meant North Atlantic Threatment Act or something very similar. The concept was to enphatize the linkage between western Europe and North America. A bit retorical maybe... but in my modest opinion we were very lucky compared to others. |

If these "The Atlantic Community: Introducing ..." films were examples of early NATO public relations marketing, there was a sequel later as the NATOarts cultural foundation, which in 1999/2000 commissioned two electro-ambient albums from Icebreaker International. The first - Distant Early Warning - is pretty good, and the second - Trein Maersk: A Report to the NATOarts Board of Directors is superb - try this, this and this. So geo-politics can unexpectedly create great music, but as no-one I know has ever heard of Icebreaker International, the publicity value for NATO seems to be somewhere between nil and zero. |
