Rather amusing in hindsight, 9min promotion film for the new Austin Princess on how it was so much better than European competitors and was going to sweep Europe! Free to watch on BFI- https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-a-leader-is-born-1975-online 1 car listed pending approval. ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2020-05-29 09:33:49 |

Mmmh I'm usually in favour of historic or old documentaries, but this seems rather a promotional video for that car... |

Yes it is a promotion film for that car. |

I vote for it. We already have a few promo films - including stablemates from 70s Leyland - because they've been given alternative releases from other sources such as DVDs and even in some cases youtube. I'd put BFi higher up the food chain than yt, as a government-supported outlet so its status becomes to some extent an officially validated posting, not just something provided by Bertie Bloggs from Basingstoke. I'm on a patchy connection at the moment so can't watch it successfully to check, but I guess it will have been piggy-backed for other entries we probably already have - if so, establishing their primary source seems good practice. |

The gods have smiled on this ... Bring on the Leylands! |

On second viewing not as many good views of cars as I originally thought of any type, appears to be same three Leyland Princess's used throughout. Princess looked much better in design sketches ! Are these Leyland Princess or Princess Princess ? ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2020-06-13 21:19:43 |

There was ADO71 build at Seneffe, but haven't found dates. But this film's slightly strange focus on NL and B plate LHD cars might tie into the start of Seneffe assembly. |

Yes, the B plate literally says "British Leyland 1976", what else could it mean than promoting the new Seneffe models. |

Seems to be a lash-up of an early film with some shots of early 75 raised bonnet centre Morris/Wolseley bodyshell; voiceover is constantly very British double-glazing advert style, as if there's an original UK version and this is the Seneffe remix. The final sequences with the blue Princes mix and match clips with LHD and RHD cars, plus all sorts of number plate games. |

Is their a new future about IMCDB that is only going to allow feature films and scripted TV series ? No objections but should'nt it be made clear to everyone? -- Last edit: 2020-06-14 09:17:42 |

I wouldn't say that's happening, the position remains as it is on the guidelines, that this kind of thing is pending approval. A lot does get through eventually. You usually do the right thing and ask first and what you tend to add is usually fine anyway. |

- 73+ Chrysler 180 - Mini 1100 Special - only made in Seneffe, mainly for Europe but some arrived in UK. There's quite a bit of chatter on Leyland forums that mid/late 70s UK-sold RHDs were often Seneffe builds across many ranges - eg Mini, Marina, Maxi, Allegro etc. The mix of stuff from Seneffe even stretched to batches of (LHD) Innocenti Cooper 1300s at one stage. It all closed in 82. - 204 - probably 66 or might be 46. -- Last edit: 2020-06-14 18:14:33 |
