This documentary is now completed. It contains mostly footage of Cologne, but also a few cars from Paris and Berlin. They are talking a lot about the Ford factory here, as two of the contemporary witnesses worked there. Exterior views of the Ford factory: Assembly line of Ford Model A: Assembly line of Ford Eifel models: New cars leaving the factory gate: New Ford trucks waiting for shipment: Ford trucks loaded onto ships: Ford trucks (without rear axles) loaded onto a ship: A harbor crane at the Ford factory: ("Who thinks economically, choses Ford") New Ford Eifels (and a truck) loaded onto trains: A Ford ad: "Judge by yourself if the FORD 4PS 1 Litre is a German car!" "In all of these places, renowned companies of the German industry contribute to the production of the Fordcars." Another Ford ad ("world proved"): A Savoia-Marchetti SM.73, operated by Belgian airline SABENA: A civilian Junkers Ju 52/3m: An unknown German military plane: Another unknown German military plane in a repair workshop: A military Junkers Ju 52/3m: Unknown Allied military planes being either repaired or dismantled: |

Thank you! Yes, looking closer on the person of Henry Ford, some things are still unbelievable. Hitler even had a picture of him on the wall in his Munich office. |

Still, main truck of the Wehrmacht was Opel Blitz, with Ford trucks on secondary roles. |

They had similar views on the treatment of minorities and their methods of controlling their labour forces were quite alike. It is extremely difficult to become either a dictator or mega rich without trampling on the masses, or indulging in a certain measure of crookery. -- Last edit: 2018-04-02 13:34:53 |

Rumour has it that Hitler thought some of Henry Ford's views were a bit extreme..... |

from which year is this photo? It's written "Judge by yourself, if Ford is a German car" The map doesn't show the Germany between 1918 and 1937, there are areas, which were lost after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Versailles |

The picture seems to show a Ford Model Y, known in Germany as the Köln for obvious reasons. It looks very similar to the British product, and is not the Cologne only Cabrio Limousine. The cars were produced from August 1932 to November 1937 in UK, but the German product had started to move away from the Dearborn design by 1936. The car in the picture seems to have no valances on its wings, so suggesting that it is a 1933 model, but the picture is difficult to interpret. My feeling would be that the ad would show the latest variant, and possibly the most up market as well, to give the best impression, so let's say 1934. At most it can only be two years out, and if the car is a long radiator model as introduced in UK in the October 1933 facelift which I can't see from the picture, that would be 1935 or 1936 at latest. -- Last edit: 2018-04-02 14:44:50 |

I won't try to defend my "nazi era bul(l)shit" contribution here, because your ignorant opinion is obviously irrelevant here. Go on and identify forklifts, excavators and bulldozers, and leave the interesting pages alone. |

No Karl Marx, not quite true. Henry Ford (whose mother was Belgian) did employ many black workers and went out of his way to bring them to Detroit (which is why the city is mostly black now). |
◊ 2018-04-03 10:45 |
That depends on what you consider as minorities. After all, there was even cossack SS cavalry division. |

racism and discrimination in general is a strange thing I barely understand no matter how hard I try to understand it (and i've experienced it myself, since I am a black guy who people feel acts too white for their taste) "i will work with and hire people and generally act pleasant towards people I severely hate with a passion" is a real thing i've dealt with -- Last edit: 2018-04-03 11:43:31 |

I think Henry Ford's views were not against blacks, but against Jews, that's why he had a good relationship to Hitler. Ford also wrote a book "The International Jew", which was published in several languages. Prominent Nazis like Heinrich Himmler or Baldur von Schirach were influenced by that book. Later on, the Ford company made great efforts to destroy all unsold copies of the book. |

I said minorities, I did not comment upon any further definition of minority. It is also quite disappointing to find that my attempts to identify the year of the Ford ad as mentioned by Ingo have been ignored, while a general comment on attitudes prevalent amongst tycoons and dictators has been swooped upon. BTW, Studebaker made the Dictator, Armstrong Siddeley made the Tycoon! -- Last edit: 2018-04-03 13:06:00 |

That's not an issue of racism against minorities, that book deals with the influence of Jewish families on global finance, like the Rothschilds. Hitler similarly blamed Jewish bankers for withdrawing funds causing Germany to lose WW-I. (Hitler's view, not endorsing it.) |

IMCDb isn't a playground of some autistic nerds, who list stupidly useless informations for other autistic nerds. IMCDb is a database, which includes the international exchance of knowledge - and that is much more than a dumb listing of technical datas. The knowledge of backgrounds, historical, technical, social, local, plus as premium point, personal experiences of members. IMCDb is neither a playpen, nor a warm room for mental homeless nerds. It's a living forum, made by and for widely sane people. |

@johnfromstaffs: my comment about the ad indeed includes political thoughts. I know, that this car is from the 30ies - which makes the map in this advertise very revealing, as it shows areas belonging to Germany, which were lost since Versailles. And no, I don't feel ashamed, that it provoked a political discussion - because the knowledge about such topics is important for the whole context. A propos Ford in Germany: in some book about WWII I read, that Ford USA delivered parts for Wehrmacht-trucks to Germany still in the first time of WWII - and for the same time parts for (military) truckd to the USSR, too. -- Last edit: 2018-04-04 23:29:00 |

Nothing at IMCDb is more boring than blockbusters. The vehicles there are purposefully chosen, plus the whole product placement thing. Boring, use- and pointless. The real interesting things we dig out in these obscure Russian series, old Hongkong-trash, in the low-budget-junkyard-C-movies and yes, in documentations. |

I find myself feeling uneasy conversing about WW2 and the Nazis in this forum. This is not a complaint, more that I feel it inappropriate and also very difficult to anticipate the reaction of the others who might read what I say. I am who I am as a direct result of WW2, if my Dad had not been posted to the RAF camp in the town where he met my Mother I would not exist. Had Versailles not been so hard upon the German nation there might not have been a niche for Hitler to slip into and gain the power to wage a disastrous war. I never met close relatives who were lost in the second war, but also view it as a catalyst for a great improvement in the attitudes of British society. I could fill a page or two, but this forum is not the place. |

RheinDVD makes local documentaries about the city of Cologne... What's to prevent from adding... Köln: Filmreise in die 70er Jahre Köln: Filmreise in die 60er Jahre etc... which is getting far from the purpose of the site. |

basically (a bit off topic: I can't eat coconut because it makes me puke up my guts and I can't even smell raw coconut without getting sick (my stomach hates me sometimes )) I do admit to having a affinity for Volvos (there's a lot in the NYC-NJ-CT area, especially a decent amount of older sedans and wagons) Fair complaint, but I guess in the time of "everything needs to be a forever-going parade of pain and conflict because I guess people can't resist being miserable dicks" you'd be fine as long as we keep the more unsavory parts of the internet at bay (trust me, you DO NOT want them here) |

@johnfromstaffs: this is the difference between you and the most people from the continent: there, especially in Poland and Germany there is nearly no family, where the WWIai had not any influence, where family members were killed (or have killed...) or had to flee or were banished. For a political interested person with a overproportional historic knowledge the daily life is not easy here in Middle Europe. -- Last edit: 2018-04-05 11:55:43 |
