Looks like punch card reader on the left side from the terminal.

Sorry to point out that, but the title sounds a but pathetic, knowing what happened to the Leyland group soon after.

I've spent many an hour sorting collating and feeding 80 column punched cards into various equipment.

Well, the title is quite unfortunate indeed, but at least the commercial weren't so terrible too. :p http://youtu.be/bqRSwStYJF8

Good idea with this fake fox...

After all, wasn't it better decade than the previous one? The company changed its organization, Leyland broke up, but at least their 1980s personal/popular cars again started to be more competitive IMO.

This is even worse :D http://youtu.be/fnZ3GatMcIw It promotes also a competition with possibility of to win a new Metro every week.
Don't know how much sold here (not many models anyway), also because if I'm not wrong exactly in 1982 Fiat started to sold the new Panda, which has been very successful, and don't think that English cars were well known by the Italian public (with the exception of Mini and Clubman).

Sounds like you are from a really old school computer group. I did played with the punch card typewriter when I was three years old :D

There were also successfull rally versions of the Metro. Here one example:

Though next to the turbo monsters of this era, still maybe not that bad for what it had under the hood.

In fact, I find this one more timeless - from the choreographic point of view.
Interesting why the car hasn't transparent headlights.
