 A freight train coming into (or going out of) Southampton docks, quite a drop in status for the Lord Nelson class locomotive in charge. A few years earlier it would have been on one of the important express trains in the South East, but the Southern Railway had built an excess of air smoothed Pacifics so it was reduced to fast goods. Another Lord Nelson seen coming into Waterloo, presumably in charge of a docks special from Southampton bringing in West Indian immigrants maybe from the SS Empire Windrush. The 2-8-0 with the hard water deposits on its boiler is an Austerity locomotive built for use in WW2 and probably repatriated from somewhere east of Norwich after hostilities had ended. The other locomotives, being Great Central (the Pullman diesel) or east coast main line and its subsidiaries I have no interest in, so no knowledge except to say that even I can recognise a "Streak" when I see one.
