 My mother saw this movie with some friends of hers. The one Meryl Streep movie I'm looking forward to is "Doubt," and that's because of Amy Adams.

 i"m surprised people who have watched the film havent picked up on this....if you take away all the Abba songs, the movie is a bad rip off of the 1960s Sophia Loren movie "Buena Serra Mrs Campbell"!!

 It was Gina Lollobrigida and not Sophia Loren that starred in Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell ;) and yes, anyone that saw it, would realise that Mamma Mia! 'borrows' the plot from the earlier film.

edit: according to Wikipedia there was a stage-musical version of Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell called "Carmelina" that was a big flop in 1979. That Mamma Mia! is the big success it is shows they got the formula right this time.

So perhaps the plot of stage-musical and movie versions of Mamma Mia! is a lot less important than the Abba songs.
