I am working on this series. I bit the bullet and bought the DVDs, and of course right after I did that, the show became available on Tubi. At any rate, I'm halfway through capping season 2, but I did want to add the family cars from all seasons.

The show is about a large family, based on the writings of newspaper columnist, Tom Braden. Dick Van Patten and Diana Hyland played Tom & Joan Bradford. The pilot also starred Mark Hamill, as the oldest son, David. After they filmed the pilot, Mark filmed Star Wars and was no longer available, so he was replaced by Grant Goodeve. He was the only one of the kids to live outside the family home. The show was thrown a curve ball early on when Diana Hyland died right after the show premiered. Between the time they filmed the pilot and the show, she had a re-occurrence of breast cancer, she had only filmed four episodes. For season two, they made Tom a widower, but quickly had him start a relationship with one of the kid's tutor, named Abby, played by Betty Buckley. She became the new step-mother in Episode 2.08.

The family cars:

Tom Bradford's sedan - The family maintained two regular cars for the whole family, the sedan was considered Tom's car, but the kids used it frequently. For the first two seasons, it was a yellow 1972 Ford LTD. In season 3, it was upgraded to a new Mercury Cougar sedan. In the first episode of Season 4, going with the gas crisis at the time, Tom decided he needed a more fuel efficient car, and replaced his old "clunker" (it was only a year old at this point, but Hollywood!), with a new brown Mazda 626, that they ran until the end of the series.

Family Station Wagon - Started off as Joan Bradford's car, but quickly became the kid's car when Joan died. Not sure how realistic it was to have 4-6 characters sharing one car. In seasons 1-3, the wagon was a green 1969 Chrysler Town & Country. It seems to have disappeared in Season 4 and replaced by a new red Pinto Squire (I guess like the Mazda, they wanted to go with the times and have something more fuel efficient), which seems to be too small for a family of 10. In season 5, the Pinto was gone and replaced by a new red Plymouth Volare.

It's seems outdated, even then, that only the sons had their own cars during the show's run. None of the daughters are shown owning their own car, and basically had the five girls sharing the family station wagon (or using public transportation, but that was never seen).

VW Van - The VW Van was the only car used for all five seasons. It started off as the oldest son, David's car. It looks like sometime in Season 3 or 4, David gets a new car and sells the van to younger brother Tommy, who uses it for his band. It's the most seen of the family cars.

David's trucks - after David sells the van to Tommy, he is seen driving a brand new Ford Bronco in Season 4. In Season 5, the Bronco is gone and David is driving a Dodge Power Wagon pickup instead.

Abby's MG - Abby's RHD MG gets a lot of airtime on the show. Only she or Tom drives it, it's off limits to the kids. It was the one thing she still has from her late husband, who died in the Vietnam War. It's seen from the first Episode that Betty Buckley is in until the end of the series.

Merle's truck - In season 4, Susan Richardson, who played the third oldest child, Susan, was pregnant in real life, so her character quickly met a minor league baseball player and got married, so they could incorporate her pregnancy into the show. Merle brought with him an orange Chevy C-10 used in Seasons 4 & 5:
