 I noticed that there were a lot of cars imported from non-Communist countries. How common were they in Poland during the Comminist era? Who was in a position to buy them?

Mainly: members of government, directors of state enterprises, scientists, artists, owners of small private firms (small shops, farms etc.). It was possible to buy some western cars in Poland for dollars (in Pewex shops), others were from private import. So of course, because of price and availability the most common were eastern cars, but I remember from my early childhood (80's) some "special" streets in Warsaw where were parked mainly "non communist" cars.

It was similar in Czechoslovakia (I wrote about it in the discussion about movie "Vesnicko ma strediskova". There were mainly eastren cars because of their availability and price. Only some western cars, mainly Fiat and Renault were available in czech crowns, the rest was available only in the shops called Tuzex for dollars and other western money. Owners of this cars were also the "prominent persons", scientists, artists and also grenngrocers, butchers and winegrowers. I remember that our neighbour, who was a cellist bought a new Peugeot 309 in 1987 and the director of our school owned a Renault 9 in the 80s. It were sometimes very interestig stories. For example a friend of my grandma bought Ford Taunus 17M in 1971 from his neighbour, who inherited the car from his aunt in West Germany.

I confirm. As for the rest, the luckiest person was the one who had a horse and cart to go to the next village...like grandma who lived near the Vistula river ; it was still like that in 1981 :/

You mean trams? It's Konstal 13N.
Except of two T1's in Warsaw, no Tatra trams were imported to Poland.
