The "Chinese cargo plane" used to deliver the gold is in fact a rare Douglas C-74 Globemaster 1. Even I didn't know that until, frustrated by not being able to identify it after an umpteenth viewing, I deceided to trawl through everything I could find until I did! A single example was actually used on the Berlin Airlift.

Hi IMCD,

Just to let you know, the numberplates HMP729G, GPF146G and LGW809G were all sold at auction in 2006. They were originally taken off the Coopers back in 1969. They were then owned by a private collector until the early 1990's. They were then sold to another private collector who sold them at a classic cars auction in 2006. We successfully bid for these items and now legally own all three log's and retention certifcates.
We are presently rebuilding what has been described as 'the most authentic replica's ever built' for these iconic film Coopers. They are exact in every detail and have had huge input from people directly or indirectly associated with the film in 1969.
The first of our itlaian job build's has been GPF146G the white Cooper S in the film. This has been legally registered with the DVLA as GPF146G and is (as the other Coopers we are finishing) as close as you can get to the original's from the film. All three will have the original plates and can be legally driven with these iconic numbers.
They look fantastic and have won great praise from the motoring press, such as Mini Magazine etc. Many Mini companies have formed what we have called the 'Self Preservation Society' such as Mini Machine, Mini Sport, Newton Commercial, Mini Spares, Mini Magazine, Revolution Wheels, Minilite etc....

We are presently looking for a Harrington Coach to transport these iconic cars in correct manner, hopefully by 2012 it'll be on the road! - Charlie Crocker would be proud !!!!!!!

CHECK OUT OUR ONLINE BUILD BLOG AND STORE AT WWW.THEITALIANJOBMINICOOPERS.COM

THESE COOPERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR HIRE - WITH MONEY GOING TO VARIOUS CHARITIES.....THAT WAY EVERYONE BENEFITS...(and we get to enjoy driving these cool Coopers !!!), WE HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU WISH TO HIRE THESE COOPERS.

Best Regards,
D.Morton

Wow! I was looking at your website right now. I'm a huge fan of this film and I'm really interested in your restoration project. It's true that HMP729G registration number was used before on a Mazda MX-5? Could you describe more carefully the process of how did you bought this registration numbers? Were your Minis used in the original movie or are they just normal Cooper S?

This maybe a little bit of info I have had for years so it possibly will be seriously out of date!
In 1982 I used to go to Esher College, on the way back to Hersham (home) via the bottom of Sandown race track, there used to be a little set up of garages, I used to pass I saw a Fella washing a Red mini Cooper 'S', Spinning back round in my Morris MC 998 I had to get a closer look. I approached the fella and got into conversation with him, he was in his 50's in 1982 so he's up there now. Anyway I digress, I said he had a beaut of a replica of the Red 1275 from the Ital-job all the way down to the 3 spotlights on the grill. I remember it soooo very well because he thanked me for the compliment and then with a huge grin opened 2 other garages to reveal the other two mini's Blue and white. Now I see no reason for him to BS me about the authenticity of the mini's and i didn't even entertain the fact that he could have been lying. He mentioned he had worked in the movie industry and was involved in the production of the Ital-job in some capacity. Anyway to stop my drivelling I now live in the USA I was 17 then and 43 now, so alot of water has passed under the bridge since then but I remember that meeting so clearly. Yes he could have been a bullshitter, I doubt it though why the need. As for me I can only go on what I saw and my word. If anyone knows whether they still remain in Esher let me know i'd love the red one.

Be-Seeing-You.

At 1:18:20, when the Mini's take a jump during the chase you can see a Gray van parked to the side of the road... Can anyone tell me what type of van this is?

I'm watching this movie for the first time right now, and IMCDb is a real help, Since I don't recognize half the cars in the movie.

"Making of" film (2002) - I think it was a TV special:
- part 1 - actors, locations etc, not really much about cars until near the end - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI8nolf8UFE
- part 2 - a fair bit about cars and stunts - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EuGElpjRDY

The deleted "Blue Danube" sequence (apparently filmed in the hall used for Turin motor show) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFDiYvqyecg
