At the end of the movie there is a very nice shot of the 'transbordadeur' in Rochefort, sort of a swinging bridge crossing the Charente... |

I hadn't seen the beginning of this movie, but the opening scene (ballet) is actually ON this Eiffel built transbordadeur, the suspended ferry. |

The Martrou is still in working order and restored...for cyclist in the summer, with a nice little museum. We went there last year. A trip for 2008 Dynamike? By the way, I wish you, and all IMCDB contributors an happy new year http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont_transbordeur_de_Rochefort |

Yes, we were there in spring 2006 (we planned to go with our Panhard, but it broke down the very first day of our holidays so we had to use a modern car ). It's a very impressive construction, the last transbordeur still existing in France. There have been meny of them, the most famous crossing the entrance of the Marseille harbour. When we visited Rochefort, the Martrou was not in use because of extremele stormy wether... I think it is occasionally open for cars by special appointment (I've seen a recent pic of an excursion of the Peugeot 403 club on it). I always thought (mistakenly) that it was an Eiffel construction, but the wikipadia link (and also my Michelin guides) tells it was built by Arnodin. |
