Completed.

This TV movie (split in two parts) is about the Gladbeck hostage crisis of 1988, which lasted three days. Two men robbed a branch of Deutsche Bank in Gladbeck (Ruhr Area), but were spotted. Due to a series of misunderstandings, incompetent figures in politics & police, and ruthless journalists, who were willing to do nearly everything for a good story ("Please hold the gun to her head again, I need a clear photo!"), the hostage situation was moved to Bremen, were the robbers kidnapped a whole bus, and - after a big mistake done by the police - shot a 15-year old boy, who died because nobody thought about keeping an ambulance near the bus. They took the bus to the Netherlands, were the Dutch police managed to free the hostages. The robbers and the girlfriend of one of them escaped in a BMW 735i and two young girls as hostages, and returned to Germany, where they drove to Cologne ("to see the Cathedral"), where they parked right in the city center. Journalists gathered around them, which made police operations impossible. One journalist even got into the car and showed them the way to the Autobahn. On the Autobahn, near the border between the German states Northrhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, the police finally stopped the car, because NRW's minister of the interior wanted the case solved on NRW ground, although GSG-9 elite commandos were already preparing for this in Rhineland-Palatinate. During the police ambush, one of the hostages, an 18-year old girl was shot and killed, officially the deadly shot was fired by one of the robbers.
Also, (but only mentioned in the credits of this movie), one police officer died while chasing the bus, when he crashed his car into a truck.

Very well made. This film really made you hate the protagonists (who at the same time are also the antagonists)

It was so good I even took the damage of a 30-year-old BMW and Mercedes completely into account.

Thanks! Now, from a distance, would you still recommend the movie? I watched this one and - despite a very impressive Jürgen Vogel - that was a mistake. A MISTAKE!!! Still annoyed at it after more than a year! I remember the real hostage crisis very well as I stayed at my aunt's house back then, which is not far from Gladbeck. Having researched quite a lot about this in my life, I was hoping for a respectfully made documentary-style movie - not a fictional pseudo-romantic Hollywood-like popcorn action Isch-sag-einfach-Hello-Again-flick with 150 kg corruption of historical facts attached, kicking everyone involved in the real events in their teeth! I'm very cautious with this one now...

Update 04/2020: I watched it now and fully agree with Gamer! Very realistic and historically correct production, as far as I can tell. Also, the families of the victims are respectfully protrayed throughout the movie, without making it 'their' story. If you want to get an idea of the atmosphere in Germany during those 54 fateful hours oin 1988, this is the movie to watch.
