jpts ◊ 2017-07-02 10:49	I've heard of this film, this film was based on the crash of Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937 and DHL Flight 611 that collided in mid-air over Überlingen in Southern Germany on the night of the 1st July 2002. The crash resulted in the deaths of 71 people onboard the 2 planes; 69 (60 passengers (including 45 children) and 9 crew members) on Flight 2937 and the 2 pilots on Flight 611. The investigation into the crash of Flights 2937 and 611 was the result of conflicting orders from the Traffic Collision Avoidance System onboard Flight 2937 and the Swiss Air Traffic Control, as at the time of the collision, the main the radar screen and phone lines at the Swiss Air Traffic Control were down for regular maintenance. The main characters in the film are based on those involved in the disaster: Roman Melnyk (Portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger) - Based on Vitaly Kaloyev; a Russian architect, lost a wife and two daughters when their plane; Flight 2937 crashed, was involved in the search for the bodies from the crash, was later sentenced to 8 years for the murder of Peter Nielsen on the 26th October 2005, later released on the 8th November 2007. Jacob "Jake" Bonanos (Portrayed by Scoot McNairy) - Based on Peter Nielsen; a Swiss Air Traffic Controller, was the only air traffic controller on duty when Flights 2937 and 611 collided, stabbed to death by Kaloyev in front of Nielsen's family in the garden of the Nielsen Family home at Kloten in Zurich, Switzerland on afternoon of the 24th February 2004. Even the planes in film are based on actual planes involved in the crash: AX Flight 112 - Based on Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937; Tupolev Tu-154M, registration, RA-85816 with callsign, BTC 2937, was enroute to Barcelona, Spain from Moscow, Russia with 60 passengers, including 45 children and 9 crew members aboard.
