Well then… written and directed by Andrew L. Stone, with Joseph Cotten and Teresa Wright, re-united after Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). The story of a regular 9-to-5 man suddenly tempted by the big money he's in charge of, as a bank director. He steals a million dollars on Friday evening to radically change his life: that's why he organizes his escape of the country… with his wife and kid (I said 'radical change'). Unfortunately (from the Devil's point of view), once in New-Orleans en route for Rio de Janeiro, his wife understands what he has done: outraged by his anti-patriotic behavior (I'm not joking), she leaves him. Understanding that with a mere million bucks but without wife, he can't go on, he hastily returns to LA, hoping to put the money back in the vault before bank opening, Monday morning. Don't worry, he'll succeed. A series of suspensive annoyances and incidents form the frame of the film, generating suspens (the writers, Andrew Stone and his wife, must have envisionned all possibilities of problems on the way between an office and a safe plane). It is not very good. Very not. (And I who writes this am a great supporter of Joseph Cotten.) And Dimitri Tiomkin's score is a real pain in the ears (as are most of his scores). I'll post planes for IMPDb.org but the pics aren't better than the ones for IMCDb. -- Last edit: 2015-09-01 04:06:05 |
