 Surrealist style; it is based on a famous book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Froth_on_the_Daydream
The cars are just a small part of it.
Sadly they aren't more visible, I was expecting better views after the various set photos found some time ago (check archived comments)

There was also a strange police vehicle:

 By the way the making-of was posted by Peugeot, which contributed to the movie.
There are some additional weird cars proposals seen in the video that they didn't make for the movie.
