I just watched an episode that had a Piaggio Ape and a bunch of Crosleys.

I think it would be great to have a show like this, but car oriented.
"American Auto Pickers".
Would love to watch it and see antique cars saved from the scrap yards.

Recently got a good look at the Nash during a recent episode and can confirm it is indeed a 1950.

I'd like to pull the images from this show if no one else is doing it. There is a jaw-dropping amount of very rare cars on this show.

Commander 57 US

2011-07-21 17:37

Yet most of the time the Pickers seem only mildly interested if interested at all.

In one show, they climbed on top of an antique car to get to one of their ubiquitous signs.
That annoyed me. I wanted to see more of the car!

There was a first season episode in which they bought a '39 Plymouth then realized they paid too much and will probably have a hard time selling it. That probably soured them. Before that, cars excited them, especially all the Crosleys. They even considered a '57 Chevy. Still, they almost always drive up on yards full of old cars and I'm surprised at how often they'll drive up next to, say, a '50 or so Studebaker.

I'll be uploading pics on this page over the next day or two. I'll post again when I finish.

antp BE

2011-07-28 16:03

Do not upload too much too many pics... as this is kind of TV-show more than TV-series it seems (category should be changed, no?)
I guess it is ok for main character's vehicles and rare things like that Goggomobil, but not for every single vehicle seen...

Commander 57 US

2011-07-28 17:34

I disagree.
This is indeed a TV series and one that occaisionally shows interesting older/antique vehicles.
I don't think uploading should be any more restricted for this show than for any other.

Have been looking forward to seeing vehicles from this program for quite some time.
Have at it, TV Boy!

"interesting older/antique" vehicles falls in what I meant by "rare things" actually.
For me it still looks more like a show than a series. There is no problem in listing it, as long as what we list is contents interesting for the site and for example not background traffic vehicles (which can be listed for normal movies & series).

tv boy US

2011-07-28 19:13

Antp, I'll leave it up to you to decide what stays and goes but most of what I kept are antiques and rarities. I didn't even bother to pull the modern day/more common one star vehicles, like, say, the SUVs in regular traffic. I think (or hope) everyone will like what they see. :-)

antp BE

2011-07-28 19:17

Find then ;) But can you confirm if it is indeed a TV show? i.e. not a fictional story with characters etc.
As IMDB lists both series and shows as just "series"...

Commander 57 US

2011-07-28 19:19

Oh. If all you're talking about is restricting background traffic, then I have no problem either.
(I think we have too much of that here anyway!)

tv boy US

2011-07-28 19:39

No, this is definitely a reality show.

TV Boy is right, but this gives reality shows a good name.

Now think of this: If we have snapshot of current traffic view and look it again another 30 years. Then it would be a vintage traffic view :D

I agree - I have a home video a friend shot in 1979 in L.A. during the gas crisis of a line of cars circling an entire block waiting to get into a Shell station (selling gas for 92 cents a gallon). Lots of cars in that line you don't see much anymore including two Renaults (a LeCar and an R16).

TV boy, keep your eyes open for a rare mid-'50s Powell pickup on that show.

What about the car from the opening credits? I'm almost posotive theres a '67-ish Mustang fastback sitting on what looks like a trailer, its hard to miss.

...but I *am* missing it. I went through the credits and didn't see anything that looked like a Ford Mustang on a trailer. Saw some part-seen shots of a tractor, a motorcycle and a pickup, but no Mustang.

Maybe it was the brief episode preview that appeared before the credits? If so that Mustang will likely turn up in a later episode.

Just saw a Pickers show last night (repeat?) that showcased a 1940 Plymouth (mis-identified as a '39).
It would make a nice capture.

While this series is not completely car-oriented, it's still much better than the American version of Top Gear that airs on the same channel.

BTW, I recently saw an episode that had a blue 1964 Rambler sitting on someone's property all covered with leaves.

Yep. Just saw that yesterday. It was a '64 Rambler Classic. It would make a nice capture for the site.
(The Pickers showed little interest - said it was too far gone. From what little I could see, it looked pretty intact. Lots of good parts, anyway.)

@Commander57: that Plymouth will be in my next batch of captures, it aired later in season one.

Also, IIRC that Rambler had a fallen tree on top of it. They did consider it but changed their minds after looking at its condition.

Commander 57 US

2011-08-11 20:22

It probably was beyond restoration but the entire front clip looked good.
(But then the Pickers aren't really in the car parts business.)

Looking forward to your post of the Plymouth (and the Studebaker!)

Its green and you can only see the right rear wheel and fender, but the rims on it are unmistakeable. It could be from an older season, the Canadian version of History isnt exactly prompt when it comes to getting new episodes on the air.

Commenter Hugo90 at http://www.flickr.com/photos/37573576@N06/3683348648/in/photostream claims to have seen a Powell in an episode. His comment is dated January 30, 2010, so it would have to have been Season 1 Episode 1 or 2 according to the air dates on IMDb.

I never saw a Powell pickup in either of those shows. I took several days to go through 1.02 (it's the one with all the Crosleys) and never saw it. I will need more info, like what scene it's in/how far into the show did it pop up, is it outside or in a barn, what color was it, etc.

The one in the episode had a lot of surface rust (some now call it "patina") but intact. Wish I could remember which episode...

Isn't the van, the two guys are travelling it, woth to list too :??: It's a Mercedes Benz Sprinter, quite rare in the USA, I guess.

Last week I saw the episode on a Canadian station, where they digged out a hyperrare "Yankee" motorbike in a huge, cluttered up barn. The deaceased owner (the daughter tries to get rid of the stuff) had bought 14 trailers and containers, when the barn was overfilled.

@rljuna2: there was a scene for you, too ;) After the Yankee-bike, they found a spotlight, used in theaters since the 1890ies - the specific bulb, an absolute rarity, was included, undamaged :)
