Online purchases of "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" via itunes etc have put it at no.4 in the midweek UK sales charts with the possibility that it could reach no.1 by Sunday's official chart as broadcast by BBC Radio 1. However the BBC are saying that to avoid upsetting public sensitivities (which is code for Tory MPs and Daily Mail readers), they will only play 5 seconds of the tune on the chart show and any other programme. That's fine by me, provided that they show equal balance and only broadcast 5 seconds of footage from her funeral. |

Where did you find that out? I didn't expect to see Clarkson at the funeral, I thought it was very funny seeing him among the great and good inside St. Paul's. Apart from those two there were only a couple of other "celebrities" the rest of the guests seemed to be Thatcher's old colleagues and foreign dignitaries and other VIPs. Clarkson attending the funeral was reported widely beforehand. cf: Link to "www.mirror.co.uk" so I guess chico heard it from the newspapers/TV. I don't think they (Wilcox/Eagle) actually based those funeral cars on Daimlers. Pretty much all funeral cars based on XJs carried Daimler grills and are registered as Daimlers but seem to have more spartan specs. For example see the wheels on that one. It is also registered with the DVLA as a 3.5 when proper Daimlers only came with 4.2s. Interesting to see just how much the makers started with when building them: Link to "limousines.co.uk" so I'm not sure it is right to say they are based on anything. They obviously stopped badging them as Daimlers when Daimler models were no longer available. One of the big funeral directors in Edinburgh uses X358s and now X351s as funeral cars and these carry Jaguar badges. |

Yeah, I did think they might have just stuck Daimler badges and grille onto an XJ. Daimler is just a luxury trim level really with nicer leather and interior trim etc. So if you're going to chop it up to make a hearse it's a bit of a waste (and they are most expensive in the range) -- Last edit: 2013-05-03 14:34:44 |
