| 1963 Austin LD Wandsworth The Sweeney (1975-1978) | to dsl, EXH vehicles are in sequence to some extent and 'spot on' (where did you find your info?). I cannot recall the order but I have seen the london ambulance vehicle log when searching for service history of mine (pictured above. BXA is early (my wandsworth is 1959. I do also own 472 EXH which is a 1963 vehicle. See photo in 'the Champions' which is in same sequence and one number before or after (can't remember.) | 2011-05-27 00:13 | |
| 1962 Austin LD Wandsworth MkIII Carry on Matron (1972) |
Hi All, I feel like I have to let you into a secret!!!! 2 wandsworths were actually used for the scene in carry on matron. My vehicle 437 is used in entering the carpark and with the cast, Bernard Breslaw, Kenneth cope, Bill Maynard and Sid James getting out and later with Terry Scott tied up front in the cab prior to the 'switch'. Another wandsworth is then used for the crash scene. This vehicle has some slight differences (subtle to the general observer). It was probably destined for the scrap yard. |

Hi Sunbar, It's been a while since I checked the site out. Just noticed your comment above "Ambulance Austin LD0 Wandsworth" in a classic vehicle magazine from 2004". Do you still have the mag or any more detail such as the name of the classic mag or date? I'd like to see/get a copy. |

| 1966 Morris LD Ambulance Wadham The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004) |
Hi all, been a while but I'm back !!!! The ambulance is a morris 'wadham' not a wandsworth. It does have the mkIII grille though which the LCC fabricated for these ambulances which where used around the mid 1960's. |

| 1959 Austin LD Wandsworth MkII Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969-1974) |
Hi I don't know how to direct you to the information about these particular ambulances, may be an administrater can link them!!!! The ambulance is a 'wandsworth' not a wadhams as some suggest. The design is particular to London circa 1956/7 onwards. The majority were all Austins (ld) especially the earlier versions. I know of a Morris badged wandsworth, but cannot recall if it is running a morris engine. Badges were more likely to be recognition and homage. BMC would only have been put onto a vehicle by a fabricator at the 'wandsworth' works department. The London Ambulance service did use wadhams and the pig snout was easily fabricated to fit these as well. Visit 'Austin memories' website, I recently contributed to a webpage under LDs |

Hi Are there any more pictures of the wandsworth ambulance. I'm interested in a 'shot' of the registration. There are not too many of these around given the film is 2003. |

| Bedford SB Duple Super Vega The Sweeney (1975-1978) |
The Ambulance is an Austin LD. The London County Council (LCC)designed and fabricated thier own bodies for use in the london ambulance service between 1957ish and 1976ish. They are known affectionately as 'wandsworths' due to being fabricated at the LCC workshop in the London Borough of Wandsworth. The other design difference to a standard LD is the rear chasis/axle which is an Allard De Dion design to lower the payload area and give more room for carrying patients. Can any one make the registration number out ? Search ambulance or austin LD for other wandsworth ambulances -- Last edit: 2008-11-21 23:58:53 |

| 1963 Austin LD Wandsworth MkIII The Champions (1968) | Hi Sunbar, I've added comments to similar pages where discussion has taken place regarding 'wandsworths' I'm not sure if I'm using the 'site' correctly but still the info is out there. I found them by searching austin and ambulances. I've been interested in these type of ambulances for years and until the internet came along thought they were 'rare', pictures and information on the net still is, but this site is the best I have found for photos. | 2008-11-05 23:31 | |

| Austin LD Wandsworth Mk.III Grand Prix (1966) | Hi all, just to add a bit to redbeard45 comment (above) The grill was taken from austin 1100 and incorporated into engine cover. the austin badge was usually attached. Later versions of the wandsworth had a fabricated morris grill (cant remember what model) and morris badge. There were, I believe, a morris grill similar to the picture above without a chrome/aluminimum surround and a version with. | 2008-11-05 22:46 | |

| Austin LD Wandsworth MkII Man in a Suitcase (1967-1968) |
Hi, just to add to detail of this type of ambulance. 'Wandsworth' is the London Borough which the London County Council had it's workshops. The chasis and running gear Austin and Morris LD's which have an Allard De Dion axle, designed to reduce floor height to 'payload' area. The body and rear axle was designed and fabricated specifically by the LCC to replace the fleet of daimler ambulances. I own the 'wandsworth' used in 'Carry on Matron' and 'Some mothers do have em' |
