Not to worry -- that was NOT the same car that got wrecked. It was a junk car with a broken frame. 2013-04-13 06:22

1923 Essex Speedabout
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
Correct again nzcarnerd! This is the "bastard" Essex owned by my friend -- see "Their Eyes Were Watching God" page for full description. 2011-08-22 07:44
1929 Ford Model AA Modified
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
nzcarnerd is correct again. This was my 1929 AA, with a non factory cab. The story I got when I bought it was that truck was purchased new by a gas station -- they took the cab off their old truck and put it on the AA. This truck is also seen in "Pearl Harbor" I no longer own it. 2011-08-22 07:39
1928 Chrysler 52
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
nzcarnerd is correct. This is my 1928 Chrysler model 52. My father bought this car in around 1962, and it's been in our family ever since. You should also find it in "Their Eyes Were Watching God", as well as other films. 2011-08-22 07:34
1936 Buick unknown
The Two Jakes (1990)
I agree with Fortengo -- I believe that's my friend's 36 Buick -- the color is correct, and I know the car was used in the film. 2011-08-22 07:28
1947 Oldsmobile 66 Special Club Coupe
The Two Jakes (1990)
It's a 47 or 48 Olds -- I know the car -- I'll get the year and confirm. See also "Devil in a Blue Dress" for another view.

1967 Citroën DS 21 Pallas
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
1965 DS-21 Pallas. It may look like the 5 bolt, it has the single bolt wheels.
2011-07-29 07:57
1917 Dodge Brothers Four Roadster [Model 30]
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
The car is a 1917 Dodge four -- the model of this particular car was the "Rex". It came from the factory with a "Rex" "California top", or as some makers referred to it, a "demi-sedan". The car has a hard top and framed glass windows which can be attached to the body and doors to convert it to a sedan. 2011-07-29 07:48
1923 Rickenbacker Six Sedan [B-6]
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
The rest of the cars on this page got updated, but this one got missed -- it is my 1923 Rickenbacker. 2011-07-29 07:40
1913 White
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1913 White. As I said under the other photo where this vehicle appeared, it may be as recent as 1917, but the paperwork that came with it stated 1913. This truck is a very reliable runner -- I can leave it sit for a year, but with fresh gas and some good strong hand-cranking, it always starts. An item of interest: this vehicle has a hand-made helical-cut phenolic gear which turns the water pump off of the cam gears -- I made the gear myself using a Makita angle grinder -- a championship piece of "back-yard" mechanics... 2011-07-27 08:12
1927 Oldsmobile
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1927 Oldsmobile. This was a completely neglected car with a collapsed body -- I decided to build it into a small truck rather than attempt to salvage the original body. "Seabiscuit" is the first film it appeared in -- it was used as a hay truck in the scenes near the horse stables. The vehicle has been used in dozens of other movies, despite the fact it's really decrepit -- the wheels squeak and crack as it rolls... 2011-07-27 08:05
1925 International Harvester
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1925 International. Drivetrain converted to Ford Pinto. Belongs to a friend. 2011-07-27 08:01
1923 Essex
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1923 Essex -- converted from a touring car. This is a very nice conversion which now resides in a museum somewhere in Pennsylvania. The car belonged to my friend who owns the other Essex seen in this film. 2011-07-27 07:59
1921 Nash Six
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
The second vehicle, which is difficult to make out -- you can see the steering wheel sticking up, is my 1913 White truck. Some White collectors have told me that it is perhaps a couple of years newer, but all the paperwork that came with it stated that it was a '13, so I call it a '13... 2011-07-27 07:56
1921 Nash Six
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1921 Nash six. (also one of mine) Not easy to identify, as the headlights are not original. This film is almost impossible to watch, but it was very profitable for me -- they used almost exclusively my cars. 2011-07-27 07:54
1926 Reo T-6
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
This is my 1926 Reo. Good observation on the two wheel brakes -- when I first bought the car it wouldn't stop. I realized the brakes were installed incorrectly -- once repaired, I was surprized just how well it stopped. Interestingly, my Rickenbacker is 3 years older, and four wheel brakes. Rickenbacker was the second US company to convert to 4 wheel -- after Packard.

1923 Essex Speedabout
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
This car belongs to a friend -- it's a "Frankenstein". I found the chassis in a barn about 20 years ago -- it's a '23. The body was assembled from bits and parts -- the fenders and radiator are 1919, but the boattail was from around '27. I provided detailed photos of an original Essex speedster when I sold this car to my friend, but he chose to build it this way. 2011-07-27 07:45
1917 Dodge Brothers Four Roadster [Model 30]
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
1917 Dodge. (Yes, it's mine.)
2011-07-27 07:41
1923 Chevrolet Superior [K]
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
This truck was made up from bits and parts. I originally acquired it as a bare chassis with driveline and firewall. The radiator is a '27, I believe, and the headlights came from a swap meet -- unknown origin, though they have a similar rim to some Buicks I've seen. The truck currently has a "C" cab which I built. The chassis is Chevrolet -- i believe it to be a 23 or 24, but really don't know for certain -- there wasn't enough there to know.

1929 Ford Model AA Modified
Pearl Harbor (2001)
This is another one of my vehicles, so I can clear this up... It's a 1929 Ford AA chassis, with a TT cab. Everything on the truck except for the cab is AA, and the cab is aftermarket for a TT, but I don't know who the manufacturer was. 2011-07-26 06:16
1931 Packard Super Eight Coupe Roadster [1104]

1936 Cord 810 Westchester
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
No way to know if it's a Westchester or a Beverly. Either could have come without supercharger. 2010-01-24 03:45
1958 Edsel
A Decade to Remember: The 1950's (2007)
Senior series -- corsair or Citation. 2010-01-24 03:34
1958 Edsel Ranger
It's Not Just You, Murray! (1964)
I believe carguy is correct -- Ranger. 2010-01-24 03:32
Aloha Summer (1988) Appears to be a senior series Corsair -- wagons did not come in senior series. 2010-01-24 03:31

Appears to be my friend's 1913 Chalmers. I'll send him a link to the page to check it. 2010-01-24 03:19
1931 Plymouth Sedan [PA]
Return from the River Kwai (1989)

1966 Citroën Station Wagon [ID]
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
ID -- this is another car that I owned at the time -- it has since been sold, and I don't know where it is now. 2010-01-16 04:53
1923 Rickenbacker Six Sedan [B-6]
The Twilight Zone (1959-1964)
Additional info: A friend of mine actually owned the car in the 1950s when he was a teenager -- he sold the car in 1956. He told me that it was the only 23 Rickenbacker sedan know in the Los Angeles area at the time, furter indicating that this would be the same car. 2010-01-16 04:50
1923 Rickenbacker Six Sedan [B-6]
The Twilight Zone (1959-1964)
Hi guys, just noticed that you'd left this question for me. The Rickenbacker club is not aware of my car, so I am notifying them that it does exist, and that it is a 1923 sedan. Looking closely at the car in these photos I believe it is, in fact, my car long before I got it. The paint striping around the radiator and on the fenders was present when I got my car, and the light damage to the right rear quarter panel that is visible in the second photo, is also an indication that it's my car. My car was missing the windshield visor, the front bumper, and had rotten non-skid tires when I found it -- further indication that this is my car. 2010-01-16 04:40
1925 Cadillac V-63 Sedan
Held for Ransom (1938)
I believe it is a Cadillac, but the radiator shell is wrong for a 26. Could be a 25. The raised ridge around the inner edge of shell is not present on 26, but is on 25. 2010-01-12 02:30
1926 Marmon D-74 Sedan
The Remains of the Day (1993)
Don't know what it is, but it isn't a 1926 Cadillac. Fenders, headlights, radiator shell, visor, marque -- all wrong for Cadillac. I own a 26, so I am certain about this. Should be listed as "unknown".

Mad Men (2007-2013) The red and white 59 Villager is a nice car -- there was a Lincoln sedan that was too new for the show, but it sneaked in anyway. I had a white 62 Valiant there a few times, but I don't really keep lists of the other cars that are working. I remember a 55 or 56 ford that broke down -- but that's why I remember it. Most of us have done the rental thing for so long that we end up socializing more than tire-kicking... 2009-10-25 02:57
1920 White
Changeling (2008)
The owner of specialty Vehicles tell me that it is a 28, but I think it's earlier... It is a White "pie wagon" dressed to look like a paddy wagon. 2009-09-20 08:17
Mad Men (2007-2013) Carguy60 -- I work regularly on this show -- they do NOT shoot all the cars for the season at one time. No show does that. They shoot the cars for each episode on that episode's shooting schedule. It would be impossible for a show to shoot all the cars for an entire season at one time, as the scripts are altered and rewritten constantly throughout the season (I'm also a writer in addition to supplying cars.) The cars on Mad Men are supplied through Specialty Vehicle Association, a broker who keeps a massive database of cars of all types and vintages available for movies and TV.

Oh, and I know your friend with the 60 Edsel. I made the mold for casting her taillight lenses -- if you talk to her, tell her to bring it back sometime...

1948 Tucker Torpedo
Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)
The "Tucker" that gets crashed is a 1950 Studebaker modified by Tom Sparks, movie car genius and supplier of cars to films for over 40 years. Some of the real Tuckers used in the film were treated very poorly, and had serious damage done to original upholstery and even body damage. The owner of the car used in the chase was so discouraged that she ended up selling the car. I have to disagree with Carguy60 -- the movie company did not pay for a complete restoration on the car. They did their typical half-hearted repairs, which were completely unsatisfactory, then they refused to do any more. The owner contacted me in the hope that I could help persuade the movie company to do a proper restoration, but then sold the car before I was able to make the necessary arrangements through Tom Sparks. Sparks said if he had known, the car would have been properly restored, but he was contacted too late. 2009-09-20 07:58
1941 Plymouth Special De Luxe 8-Passenger Station Wagon [P-12]
Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
This car belongs to Tom Sparks, who has been supplying cars to movies for many, many years. (over 40!) I believe it may be the "unknown" woodie in "Two Jakes".

1958 Imperial

Definitely NOT a Ghia -- the tops of the doors are not extended into the roof. 2009-09-20 07:36
1954 Hudson Jet Customized
Open Season (2006)
Loosely based on a 54 Hudson Jet, but the grilllooks like 53 Hornet... 2009-09-20 07:31
1934 De Soto Airflow [SE]
Mulholland Falls (1996)
1934 DeSoto Airflow -- with a surprize under the hood... I bought this car as an empty shell. When I was asked to build a Taxi for another film (Devil in a Blue Dress, or Phantom -- I don't recall which) I pulled out this rolling shell and dropped in the only engine I had handy -- a 1955 Studebaker flat 6 with a
Borg Warner automatic transmission. I sold the car a few years later, and have no idea where it is now. Someday, someone will be wondering how it ended up with that Studebaker driveline, and they can find the answer here!

État de siège (1972)
Definitely NOT a 29 Hudson. I have a 29 coupe, and this car is very different -- especially the front bumper. 2009-09-19 06:40
1948 Hudson
São Paulo, Sociedade Anônima (1965)
48 to 51 Hudson -- 51 was the last year for this back window. 2009-09-19 06:37
1923 Rickenbacker Six Sedan [B-6]
Changeling (2008)
All three frames show the same car. 2009-08-22 19:36
1929 Hudson Super Six
Seabiscuit (2003)
29 Hudson Super Six. Also one of my cars -- an incredible driving car, you have to experience it to believe it. 29 was the last of the "F" head sixes. 2009-08-22 08:36
