Filipinos loves the Box-type lancer so they restore them quite alot, and you're right, they are like Chevy Caprices as the Box-Type Lancer was also one of the main cars used by Police forces in the Philippines. Although I don't think they were ever used as cabs.

In urban areas of the US,'80s Caprices are still common. In Detroit proper, there are hundreds of them, usually customized with rims, aftermarket exhaust, show paint (often racing stripes or chameleon paint)and once in awhile, even lambo doors. You still see these cars down south, too. There are still a lot in Georgia, for instance.they aren't rare and people like buying them to customize them, much like the Lancers in the Philippines.
Impalas were more often used by the police and cab companies until they dropped it from the lineup, at which point the Caprice took over. Impalas have gotten rare, but the Caprices are still plentiful. In the south you'll still see a lot of non-police Crown Vics as well, but people up north are not interested in them. They want Caprices to "donk" out.I think in the Philippines it was the Isuzu Gemini that was popular as a taxi, and maybe Toyotas.

1978 Chevrolet Monza Sport
Speed Zone! (1989)
Theres no cartoon spider on the hood and the paint isn't sporty enough. It looks pretty plain so probably 2+2 2012-11-14 18:07
1972 International Harvester Travelall 1100
Wheels of Terror (1990)
Probably a pre-damaged vehicle and it allowed them to buy it cheaper. If it was a retake the taillight would already be crushed. 2012-11-12 03:02
1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
The Wraith (1986)
This was a VERY low-budget movie.Spending the money on a fake blower was a big enough expense for them. 2012-11-12 00:56
1976 Mazda RX-3 Wagon
The Wraith (1986)
Notice the metal sheets under the cars. When the Datsun Wagon rolls onto the ground you can also see that the engine compartment looks pretty hollow.
One of the best scenes in the movie.

"Someone just entered Honda Civic, but the roadster is what mike962 wanted this page to be for and kudos has said it's a Morgan."

Please see the first comment

"Maybe it's one of those Isuzu I-Mark coupes.."

It was sold as an Opel during the 70s, then properly badged as an Isuzu in the 80s :) A similar variation was called a Chevrolet Chevette in Brazil.

1954 MG TF
The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985)
Ok-its a 1973-79 Honda Civic. I'm more interested in the white car in front.I thought it was an ultra-rare Opel but the side marker light is too low. 2012-11-06 23:52
1979 Ford Mustang
The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985)
Its a 1979-82 Mustang. I'm sure someone can narrow it down better. 2012-11-06 23:45
Beverly Hills Cop (1984) Silver Wagon looks pretty rare.I was thinking it ma be a Datsun due to the fender.I thought it was a vent of some sort. However, Datsuns DID have a name badge in that spot so it could be that.I think most Toyotas had smaller, round side mirrors.I won't rule out Mazda either but the fender marking doesnt seem to match.
Red car might be a Pontiac Astre but is most likely a vega.

Ang utol kong hoodlum (1991) I was there in 2010, spent the first few days in Manila, and just going from the hotel to the airport I saw about 4 box-type Lancers on the road. Those are like Chevy Caprices here. Old cars that are still common and often have custom paint and wheels.I don't even know where else you can find one except the philippines.I also saw 2 Mitsubishi Mirages in Mindinao, where my wife is from. Those are all gone here. I used to see them a lot as a child but they didn't survive here. 2012-11-02 06:18

Many Filipino Action films (Especially from the early '90s) has wrecked and destroyed so many classic American, Japanese or any other cars.

I imagine old American cars are not wanted in the Philippines.I have seen some where the engines were replaced with smaller 4-cylinder or diesel-powered Japanese motors since the original motors are too inefficient, but even then, ANY replacement parts no longer exist locally.Owners have to spend hundreds of dollars to have used parts shipped from overseas. The reason there are still so many older Toyotas, Mitsubishis and especially VWs is likely due to the fact that so many were sold and parts can still be found locally.American cars just cost too much to maintain and operate so they were good for movies since nobody wanted them.
If I had tons of money, I'd love to ship a box-type Lancer to the states as a collectors item.Theyre very cheap over there and they were never sold here.

Classic Car Rescue (2012-2013) Hopefully they dont donate the cars to a studio afterwards to inevitable wreck them (sarcasm) 2012-10-30 23:42
Russkies (1987) stupid movie with fake-sounding,unconvincing Russian accents.

1977 Ford Cortina MkIV
Ang utol kong hoodlum (1991)
These were made in the Philippines for the local market, along with the Escort.Checking the Philippine classified ads, a decent amount of Toyotas, Mitsubishis and VWs from the 70s can be found, but these seem to be non-existant nowadays. 2012-10-29 22:11
1971 Ford Cortina MkIII
Relax ka lang, sagot kita (1994)
Probably assembled locally. Extremely few, if any, survive today in the Philippines. 2012-10-28 19:00

Relax ka lang, sagot kita (1994)
I don't think its a Honda. Of course, I could be wrong (and usually am).Regardless, it looks much more like a Mitsubishi or Toyota, which were locally built via CKD kits.Hondas were not sold in the Philippines until the 1990s and very few were privately imported before then.I think its more likely a Corona or Colt/Galant. 2012-10-28 18:58
1975 Polski Fiat 125p [115C]

why would a car from such a dry part of the world be so rusty? Especially since it was only 5 years old?

I'm guessing this is stock footage or lifted from another movie 2012-10-21 22:17
1985 GM G-Series
Renaissance Man (1994)
Or the fact that the movie is from 1994, that scene is in Detroit, and anything older would probably be rusted away at that point. 2012-10-16 01:58
1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon Brougham Aeroback
The Expendables 2 (2012)
Not rust, just a lack of paint.Glass intact, seats still inside.Rear reflector and passenger side headlight are gone but who knows if they were missing before the studio got ahold of it.
About 6 years ago I encountered a guy who drove one. In the 90s I saw a few around in the Detroit area. This one sadly appears to have neglected over a long period of time. However, I don't think it would have taken too much to restore it.

night cub a écrit Seriously, why did they choose this car to destroy? It was rare when new, and now is extremely rare, and could have yielded parts for someone else. There are plenty of older cars that were made in the hundreds of thousands that could have been crushed by this tank (Taurus/Camry/Accord/ even the more popular Cutlass Supreme or Ciera), and they choose a 34 year-old Olds Cutlass Salon. AAARRRRRGGGHHH!

First, filmmakers are left-wing environmentalists that despise gas-guzzling old cars with poor emission controls.Second, filmmakers are not into cars.they don't know know or care if its rare or not.Old cars are impractical, obsolete, wasteful tools of commuting in their eyes.Filmmakers are passionate about the arts but usually clueless about cars. They lease a new Benz or hybrid every few years and thats the extent to which they have any interest in a car.
These are the same people that spend $5 million on a nice, classic waterfront mansion in great shape just to demolish it and build a gaudy, ugly bigger one.

Actually, filmed in Long Beach (South California) area.

In Michigan, these cars are quite rare and most survivors are pretty rusty. One giveaway this is not really a Michigan car is the front plate.Michigan does not issue front plates.

1968 Buick Wildcat [46469]

Ramblers had these door handles in 1967 but I think it had a round mirror, whereas the shape and thickness on this one seems a closer match to Buick. 2012-10-01 19:04
