1967 Chevrolet Camaro
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
jettalover a écrit Bondo covering collision damage?

It would almost have to be. Usually when you see bondo like this, its to cover up rust. For southern Cali, that would be very unusual. If it was to cover damage then, why didnt they repaint the car prior to filming?
I know its an "independent" film, but this is a little too noticeable.

Do any old, full-sized American cars remain in Hong Kong? Or did they export them or wreck them in movies? I know there are some collectors with classic European cars there, but I haven't heard of surviving American cars. 2012-12-04 23:18
1976 AMC Gremlin
Unborn Sins (2007)
The shape of the orange light on the front corner reveals that this is a 1976 model. 2012-12-04 23:07

Awfully rusty for a Southern California car 2012-12-03 03:13
Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) You have to admit, some of the music and many of the guest stars were pretty good. BB King? Steve Winwood? Dr John? Very strong lineup of notable musicians and the music itself was worthwhile. 2012-12-01 04:37
Octopussy (1983) Its not fully a UK-market Ascona. The picture of the green Ford Grenada reveals that its a LHD country. Both, the Grenada and Mercedes going the other direction are not RHD like UK-market cars are.
Not sure how much of a difference that might make, though.

Octopussy (1983) Monte carlo is 1973-77. Its hard to see the taillights to really be sure. The red car next to it almost looks like an early Chevy Vega. 2012-11-30 17:45

rjluna2 a écrit Well, you know how some country is simply either too lax or too poor to take old classic cars to be shipped for grey market. You know how Russian does it with these Japanese used cars as well :)

The Philippines law was intended to protect local industries by limiting imports and forcing people to buy local goods. Obviously, 60s cars are no longer made and not used as daily drivers so I don't see how they threaten the local auto industry. Plus, its not about emissions. They are not strict on emissions and the roads are clogged with motorcycles and jeepneys with much worse pollution than old cars put out.Maybe if there is a growth of interest in classic cars they might make exemptions but I won't count on it.
Its not just Japanese cars in Russia. They like old American cars as well. Many European countries allow old cars to be imported for collector use, including LHD cars in RHD countries.Classic LHD cars are occasionally shipped to collectors in Ireland, for example. Many of those countries are very strict about safety, emissions and taxation, but allow such cars to be imported. The Philippines has banned them from importation but are much more easygoing on things like inspections.

1968 Plymouth Valiant
Mahirap maging pogi (1992)
I saw one or two listed on adpost. Were they officially sold there or was it just a popular car for the military to ship over?

Anything interesting in the 3rd thumbnail? I can spot a white boxtype Lancer which even today isnt that rare.

1979 AMC Concord
Bangers (1995)
What makes me angry is that the country has enacted very strict laws prohibiting classic cars from being imported. They can not purchase an old car overseas and ship it to the Philippines as it violates trade law AND would never make it past the port inspectors. 2012-11-26 23:58
1979 AMC Concord

For sure. AMC cars are virtually extinct in that part of the world. Even in 1995 this was probably a very rare car.

Filipinos loves the Box-type lancer so they restore them quite alot, and you're right, they are like Chevy Caprices as the Box-Type Lancer was also one of the main cars used by Police forces in the Philippines. Although I don't think they were ever used as cabs.

In urban areas of the US,'80s Caprices are still common. In Detroit proper, there are hundreds of them, usually customized with rims, aftermarket exhaust, show paint (often racing stripes or chameleon paint)and once in awhile, even lambo doors. You still see these cars down south, too. There are still a lot in Georgia, for instance.they aren't rare and people like buying them to customize them, much like the Lancers in the Philippines.
Impalas were more often used by the police and cab companies until they dropped it from the lineup, at which point the Caprice took over. Impalas have gotten rare, but the Caprices are still plentiful. In the south you'll still see a lot of non-police Crown Vics as well, but people up north are not interested in them. They want Caprices to "donk" out.I think in the Philippines it was the Isuzu Gemini that was popular as a taxi, and maybe Toyotas.

Wheels of Terror (1990)

1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
The Wraith (1986)

The Wraith (1986)
Notice the metal sheets under the cars. When the Datsun Wagon rolls onto the ground you can also see that the engine compartment looks pretty hollow.
One of the best scenes in the movie.

"Maybe it's one of those Isuzu I-Mark coupes.."

It was sold as an Opel during the 70s, then properly badged as an Isuzu in the 80s :) A similar variation was called a Chevrolet Chevette in Brazil.

Ok-its a 1973-79 Honda Civic. I'm more interested in the white car in front.I thought it was an ultra-rare Opel but the side marker light is too low. 2012-11-06 23:52
1979 Ford Mustang
The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985)
Its a 1979-82 Mustang. I'm sure someone can narrow it down better. 2012-11-06 23:45
Beverly Hills Cop (1984) Silver Wagon looks pretty rare.I was thinking it ma be a Datsun due to the fender.I thought it was a vent of some sort. However, Datsuns DID have a name badge in that spot so it could be that.I think most Toyotas had smaller, round side mirrors.I won't rule out Mazda either but the fender marking doesnt seem to match.
Red car might be a Pontiac Astre but is most likely a vega.

Ang utol kong hoodlum (1991) I was there in 2010, spent the first few days in Manila, and just going from the hotel to the airport I saw about 4 box-type Lancers on the road. Those are like Chevy Caprices here. Old cars that are still common and often have custom paint and wheels.I don't even know where else you can find one except the philippines.I also saw 2 Mitsubishi Mirages in Mindinao, where my wife is from. Those are all gone here. I used to see them a lot as a child but they didn't survive here. 2012-11-02 06:18

Many Filipino Action films (Especially from the early '90s) has wrecked and destroyed so many classic American, Japanese or any other cars.

I imagine old American cars are not wanted in the Philippines.I have seen some where the engines were replaced with smaller 4-cylinder or diesel-powered Japanese motors since the original motors are too inefficient, but even then, ANY replacement parts no longer exist locally.Owners have to spend hundreds of dollars to have used parts shipped from overseas. The reason there are still so many older Toyotas, Mitsubishis and especially VWs is likely due to the fact that so many were sold and parts can still be found locally.American cars just cost too much to maintain and operate so they were good for movies since nobody wanted them.
If I had tons of money, I'd love to ship a box-type Lancer to the states as a collectors item.Theyre very cheap over there and they were never sold here.
