Chevrolet Chevy Van
Scooby-Doo (2002)
@AMC man:

As discussed, seems they were using two vans; they DEFINITELY used a CF van, but for some reason could not source two, OR perhaps the scenes with the CF van were filmed in Australia, however the scenes with the Chevy Van may have been filmed in the USA.

Either way, it appears the Chevy Van was modified to look like the Bedford CF van because they were already using a Bedford CF van!

Makes sense..... but you'd think in a big budget film, they could just get two vans the same, despite any distance issues. Further to this, I was fully disappointed when I saw the movie and saw the Bedford CF was used, because the Mystery Machine was always a cab-over van like a Kombi, Econoline or Corvair...

Cheers,

Dave

1975 Holden Gemini Panel Van [TX]
Midnite Spares (1983)
That is a 1978-1979 Holden "TD" Gemini panelvan, not a TX.

The TX (1975-1976) along with its replacement, the TC (1976-1977) were styled in Germany as the Opel Kadett C and were closely aligned in spec with the Isuzu Gemini. Like the Isuzu Gemini, the Holden Gemini was available in coupe and sedan form only.

The final update of the original shape, the TD-model, introduced the Kadett C/Vauxhall Chevette/Bedford Chevenne wagon and van you can see there.

In 1979 the TD was replaced with the TE, which featured squarer front and rear styling by Isuzu with input from Holden on the sedan and coupe (which was not available in Australia) coupled with the Opel-styled wagon/van rear (which was not available in Japan).

So, long story short, the only model that could be is the TD Gemini panelvan.

Midnite Spares (1983) The speedway scenes were filmed at the now defunct Rowley Park speedway track in Adelaide, South Australia. 2010-04-28 08:05
1975 Holden Gemini [TX]
The Punisher (1989)
This is a 1975-76 Holden TX Gemini sedan. Appears to have the early "Holden-Isuzu" script across the back as the "Holden Gemini" script of the mid 1975 cars was a more obvious shape than what can be seen here.

It's parked on the wrong side of the road! Being an Aussie-built (Acacia Ridge plant, Queensland) and sold car, it is RHD, while the movie was made in Australia, it was set in a non-descript American city, hence why it may be parked on the wrong side.

You Can't Stop the Murders (2003) The EB Falcon is a bit of an anachronism there too - they went out of production in 1993. This film was made in 2003 and appears to have been set in 2003 (have not read anything to say otherwise). By 2003, Police in Australia used either VX or VY Holden Commodores and BA Falcons as their marked police cars.

Further to this, the EB Falcon pictured features some no-name brand, K-Mart-spec wheelcovers and Australian Police forces always either have the factory wheel covers or the optional "Police Pack" wheels that are normally silver steel wheels with centre caps (different for Ford and Holden), devoid of wheel covers.

Having said that, it appears the budget of that film would not have stretched far enough to get vehicles that were contemporary to the setting.

1966 Nissan Silvia [CSP311]
The Karate Kid, Part II (1986)
I can't believe they sourced one of these for the film. These are a rare car even in Japan (plus there were 49 exported to Australia - the Silvia's only export market)!!

Perhaps they were less rare in 1986 when the flick was made...

1970 MG Midget MkIII
21 Jump Street (1987-1991)
Looks like it's been fitted with an aftermarket Sebring front. Or something. 2006-11-28 01:46
1977 Mitsubishi Sigma GL [GE]
The Quiet Earth (1985)
This model (GE?) is definitely the same model that was manufactured in Adelaide, Australia and sold as a Chrysler.

However, this film is from New Zealand isn't it? The grille badge looks different to the Aussie-built Sigmas and although it's hard to see properly, it appears to be missing the small badge ('CHRYSLER') normally fitted to the leading edge of the bonnet (RH side when viewed from the front).

Due to New Zealand's less stringent import laws, models that were often built and sold in Australia often came to NZ direct from Japan in their Japanese guise - I think this may have happened with this Sigma.

Note this car was also sold in the UK as the Mitsubishi Lonsdale (perhaps named after the suburb where the engines were built, Lonsdale, South Australia).

1972 Holden Torana S [LJ]
The Quiet Earth (1985)
This is without a doubt the LJ Torana 4-door sedan. Underneath, the (monocoque) chassis is similar to that of the HB Vauxhall Viva; indeed the 4-cylinder versions shared the front quarter panels and bonnet with the HB Vauxhall Viva (sold as HB Torana in Australia), however the six cylinder versions had an extended wheelbase (from the firewall forward) and unique sheetmetal.

The engine fitted would probably be a Holden 'red' six cylinder somewhere between 2250cc to 3300cc (this engine is not related to any Opel sixes) however the engine bay will easily fit a Holden or Chev V8 and given the size of the bonnet scoop, such a conversion may have taken place in this vehicle.

The black plastic egg-grate grille denotes it as an LJ, as the LC had a silver/grey pressed tin grille (black on the GTR) which joined to the headlights; it did not leave a strip of body work between the grille and headlights as seen here.

Definitely not an Opel, nor a Vauxhall, although the GM DNA is definitely there in the parts you can't see (Vauxhall) and the styling (Opel).

1987 Holden Camira SL/X Station Wagon [JE]
The Hard Word (2002)
Nah, they were not a nice car! They did win Car Of The Year, but were later derided for being noisy and slow as they were initially fitted in Australia with a 1.6 litre SOHC carburettor engine. Later this was upgraded to a 1.8 and 2.0 SOHC EFI engine, but the damage was done and the GM J-car world car was replaced by the badge-engineered Toyota Camry badged as the Holden Apollo in about 1989ish.

The wagon version of the GM J-car world car was actually designed in Australia by Holden. Any wagon/estate versions of the car utilised Holden panels pressed in Australia, which is a Camira point of interest. Possibly the only one.

1971 Holden Statesman [HQ]
Auf Achse (1978-1996)
I've seen magazine advertisements of the South African HQ Statesman on the 'net as "Chevrolet 350", so that's probably what it's badged as. Although it was designed and built in Australia. 2006-11-24 00:54
2000 Holden Commodore [VX]
Inspector Gadget 2 (2003)
VU is the ID of the VX Commodore ute (pick up), so it's definitely not that. Far right looks like a VX Commodore sedan (probably Executive) for sure; the second from right looks either like a VT or VX Commodore wagon OR a Holden Barina (Opel Corsa) - it is quite hard to tell. It appears to have a roof wind deflector which is standard on the Commodore wagons, but shape-wise it appears more Barina. 2006-11-24 00:39
2000 Holden Commodore SS [VX]
Fat Pizza (2003)
S pack did not come with driving lights unless optioned on, plus it has the Gen III badge on the side and I don't think there were many (if any) S-pack sedan V8s built, just V6s. Why option in a V8 into an S-pack when few a couple more grand you could get the full fruit SS?? Stranger things have happened, mind you. 2006-11-24 00:35
