In 1993 the grille was changed slightly, but the grille on this one is custom. So 1990 by default. 2013-05-08 03:32

No, I don't think so, you can see the silver outline of the grille, you wouldn't see this if it was a 1994+ one with the grille integrated into the bodywork. 2013-05-06 12:52

The Iron Lady (2011) Yeah, I did think they might have just stuck Daimler badges and grille onto an XJ. Daimler is just a luxury trim level really with nicer leather and interior trim etc. So if you're going to chop it up to make a hearse it's a bit of a waste (and they are most expensive in the range)

McCoy wore a silk thingy draped over his shoulders that was a bit like a scarf, but say "really long scarf" and one immediately thinks of Tom Baker (who is generally the most popular one)

dsl wrote Note to self - must improve scarf research for next time.

Yes and less time looking up Sylvester McCoy's real name (even I didn't know his middle names!) :D

I know that Mercedes-Benz song of course, but that first one is WAY before my time :p

ingo wrote The 260 E is cheap to buy, as it's a terrible drunkard.

That's why I'm not going to buy one, plus the fact W124s are ancient now anyway. Petrol over here just gets more and more expensive (roughly £1.35 a litre on average at the moment. My old Omega was pretty bad (18-19mpg around town) but at least I wasn't doing many miles a year in it (I scrapped it a year ago, by the way) Not that I do more miles now but I'm not in a position to burn money.

ingo wrote My Japanese friend got offered a perfect mint, black 260 E with only 11.000 km on the clock, for converted roundabout 1000 €. Why that cheap? Well, it was on the countryside and the Benz was the car of the local Yakuza-boss - so everyone was afraid to take that car (bad karma and so)

 And what happened to him?

1972 Lincoln Continental
A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
Belongs to brash, boorish American Otto (Kevin Kline) In 2 scenes he drives away very suddenly, almost causing a crash with another, much smaller European car coming in the other direction, while shouting "Asshooooole!" 2013-05-01 13:48
1982 Jaguar XJ12 HE [Series III]
A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
Pibwl wrote Should be possibly 4 stars?

Although it belongs to the main character Archie Leach (John Cleese) it doesn't really get that much use. Early on he's shown driving off in it after he meets Wanda (leaving his briefcase on the roof) and at end of the film he and Wanda go to Ken's place in it (talking for a bit while driving along) Otto steals it and takes Wanda to Heathrow (he's just shown driving off and then arriving there, parking it on the pavement right in front of a main entrance doorway) Apart from that it only appears in 1 or 2 scenes, very minor use (eg. one scene Archie calls Wanda using his carphone to break up with her)

We could give it 4 stars for belonging to the main character and being somewhat memorable (it's involved in several gags) but I'm not sure it's quite 4 stars in terms of screentime. I always thought it was a nice choice of car for the character (a very English, upper-middle-class barrister) Originally I did give it 4 stars then a while later I decided to downgrade it.

The Iron Lady (2011) Where did you find that out? I didn't expect to see Clarkson at the funeral, I thought it was very funny seeing him among the great and good inside St. Paul's. :D Apart from those two there were only a couple of other "celebrities" the rest of the guests seemed to be Thatcher's old colleagues and foreign dignitaries and other VIPs.

On a car-related note, Thatcher's hearse was based on a rare Daimler version of the X350 Jaguar XJ: Link to "i.dailymail.co.uk"

Honda SS 50 Z
Play for Today - Nuts in May (1976)
So it does, well spotted! :)

From http://www.cmsnl.com/ss50z-england_model14539/info/ :

Quote Learner licensing rules in most of Europe allowed 16 year olds, and in some countries 14 year olds, to ride 50cc ‘Motorised bicycles’. So long as they had pedals anything went, and this SS50 with five speed box and in some countries, a 6.2ps engine was developed to take full advantage.

This was in essence a regular Honda SS50 sports with the legal requirement of pedals, one of which folded back to make perfectly acceptable correctly positioned footrests.
The regular SS50’s were still being produced as regular motorcycles, but it is the ‘Moped’ type that command the highest collector prices, with the five speed box of course

I can just about see the pedals.
