Red Scorpion (1989)
The SAMIL 20 also came in a closed cab - the "20" models never came out as "SAMAGs", as to my knowledge, they did not run on Magirus mechanicals.

1988 Toyota Corolla [E90]
Blood Diamond (2006)
In ZA, we missed a model and this one soldiered on until it was replaced in October/November 1996. The one in the picture is an early one (pre-1994 when they got a new grille), and I estimate it to be a 1600 of circa 1990. 2007-05-20 01:17
1980 Nissan Patrol [160]
Blood Diamond (2006)
These were very popular with their (L28) 2.8 in-line six engines in the absence of the American pick-ups at the time. This specific one is post a face-lift (in 1985, IIRC).
FYI, a brand new model of these (that still looks very much the same, really) has just become available on the ZA market (http://www.nissan.co.za/vehicles_patrol_pickup.asp).

Correct, it was replaced with W126 in 1986 in ZA. This one, however is an earlier one (pre-1980) judged by the headlights and grille. It does not have a ZA registration plate, and could have been built elsewhere.

Gag Halfrunt wrote
Perhaps it's because Mercedes and Volkswagen both have factories in South Africa.

"Made for ZA" is in most cases incorrect and should be "Made in ZA" (if necessary to specify), since Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW, General Motors (for Opel, Daewoo-based Chevs, Hummers, Isuzu), Nissan, Toyota, Fiat, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi and still a few others have factories here, and vehicle exporting is one of the main foreign revenue earners for ZA.

Believe me, antp, that it is in most cases very easy to distinguish it as a ZA-built car if you know the differences (mostly necessitated by conditions that differ vastly from the native countries of the vehicle, such as heat, dust, rough roads, vast distances, etc.) As indicated above, I don't believe it is always necessary to distinguish it as ZA built, except if the fact that it is has special relevance.

I think you're right about Blue Myosotis/ AC645 (http://www.gs-gsa.org/?p=yourcars) - interestingly, it was in use in 1978, which might just corroborate your theory on the import and rebuilding of this car. About the kangaroo lights, I will have to go and read up on them, cannot quite remember their history - just know that my 1973 DS23 Pallas has them. 2007-05-19 22:47

1974 Audi 100 LS C1 [F104]
The Wild Geese (1978)
We got the C2 somewhat later (1978 IIRC) in ZA than elsewhere (as was the case with almost all models during the isolation years). Will firm up on my facts - you could, of course, be right that this is an earlier car, would be easier to say if more details were visible. 2007-05-19 22:04

1972 Citroën DS
Auf Achse (1978-1996)
I would be careful to call this a DS21, except if there is hard evidence like a clearly legible boot badge or mention in the episode, since the DS21 was replaced by the DS23 in 1972 and:
- This car was most likely rebuilt/ restored and does not quite match any of the standard DS clours (http://www.nuancierds.fr/danchorama.htm), coming closest (but not matching) Blue Platine AC632 (http://www.nuancierds.fr/AC%20632%20Bleu%20Platine.htm) that was use in 1970/71 only. Also, the front valance has been repainted black, where it is body colour as standard. Maybe the registration also reflects that...
- It has the body-coloured roof of cars from 1971 onwards (used on Pallas models only before that - but then, it does have the Pallas-type door trim).
- Some of the minor details like the late-type recessed doorhandles and inside rear-view mirror glued to the windscreen were introduced in September 1971 only.

I therefore think it is statistically irresponsible and very brave to call it a "21" without conclusive evidence. Shouldn't it just be called Citroen DS (Pallas, to add a bit of adventure if you so wish)?

Mitsubishi Colt Clubcab [L-200]
Supernova (2005)
A bit of history on these "LCVs":
When Daimler-Chrysler was still very much involved with Mitsubishi, they decided to start building and marketing these in ZA, but not as Mitsubishis, as other models (e.g. Pajero) had their own marketing channels in terms of the former Sigma setup. The Colt name was well-known and respected in ZA, as Mitsubishi Galants were first marketed here as Chrysler/ Dodge Colts and later as the Mitsubishi Colt Galant, hence the decision to market them as Colts. Only the three-diamond insignia identified them as Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi has now gone totally independent in ZA, and are marketing the Triton as replacement of the Colt/LCV.

1936 Cord 810 Convertible Coupe
Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (1975)
The 810 was the unblown version of the supercharged 812, and did not have the chromed external exhaust pipes seen on these photos. I have, as precisely as is possible from these pics, measured the length of the front fender, and it seems about OK, but I could not find a 810/812 Cord with running boards anywhere. The other details look authentic, although the shape of the grille vanes on this one bothers me a bit - on all the other pictures I find they have straight, chromed front edges. Taking into consideration that, in the two years that the 810/ 812 was produced, fewer than 2500 of them were sold, the chances are that this is a kit/ copy (but a good one). 2007-05-14 22:04

Probably yes, but there were lesser models (L, GL, etc.) that are visually very difficult to distinguish. All of them were Great Little Cars, nevertheless...
I do think that these cars were available earlier than 1979 (1976/7 if I remember correctly), and were replaced by the next generation in 1981. They are still a common sight on SA roads.
