| Fiat 615 RN Il Bell'Antonio (1960) |
Boy, whatever that is - it looks great and I´ve never seen it before! Many Italian hearse builders used to restyle the whole bodies of their hearses as well as coachbuilders often did in France and in Portugal. So this could be some ordinary Italian chassis by Fiat or Lancia or whatever. The body strongly reminds me of Carrozzeria Accossato, as well as Fissore or Santori could have been the constructors. That´s what makes enthusiasm for funeral vehicles so absorbing: You may have seen 10.000 different vehicles, but you´ll never know them all. ![]() |

| Dodge Brothers Funeral Coach Chiefs (1983) |
OK, I can´t tell for sure, especially not from this single picture. There were innumerable American hearse coachbuilders prior to the wallstreet crash, offering an incredible variety of carved bodies. So I had two possibilities: 1) I have by accident pictures, brochures etc. of the very same 8 column hearse shown here or a similar one, 2) I have records of a Dodge hearse of that era which reportedly still existed when the movie was shot. None of them happened. Keystone Vehicle Co. of Columbus/ Ohio made similar bodies on Dodge chassis around 1918, but that´s the nearest relative of this funeral coach I could find by now. -- Last edit: 2008-02-05 00:43:51 |

When I was in London in 2005, I saw an AEC Routemaster near Trafalgar Square with Lion King advertising similar to the one shown here. It could very well have been the same bus like above. (What a shame I didn´t take a picture...) -- Last edit: 2008-02-03 20:22:58 |

I´m quite sure this is an U23 hearse. | 2008-02-02 03:45 | |

First commercial manufacturer of motorized funeral coaches in Japan was Yonezu Kobo (est. 1949), so it´s very likely we see one of the earliest hearses built by this company - but I have no idea about the chassis. -- Last edit: 2008-02-01 23:50:00 |

| 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Bestattungswagen Pollmann Funeral in Berlin (1966) |
As far as I know it was a 1959 Fairlane. The hearse is well known among enthusiasts. I have several factory photographs of this car (and an original advertisement, I think). It was custom-tailored by Pollmann Karosseriefabrik of Bremen/ Germany. Edit: No, the factory photographs show a different, but similar vehicle. | 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Funeral Coach The Corruptor (1999) |
Yes, 93 - 96 Fleetwood for sure. But if this claims to be a funeral coach, I claim to be Audrey Hepburn! That car has a standard roof height, so it can´t be more than a standard wheelbase flower car (e. g. Lansdowne by Wolfington or Metropolitan by Shasco as shown below). Extended wheelbase flower cars - which load a casket - normally have a high roofline similar to the conventional funeral coaches. http://www.specialtyhearse.com/specialty_hearse/fc_sideview.jpg -- Last edit: 2008-01-31 18:42:53 |

Oh, I´m sorry for having confused you with your comrade. According to my sources, the Dacia was built by a company named E. Neumann (Alfred?!? ) in 1987. It seems like they had in mind to craft more of these, but suddenly the fall of Berlin Wall intervened and protected the world from additional Dacia hearses. -- Last edit: 2008-01-30 02:01:14 |

| 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Funeral Coach Six Feet Under (2001-2005) |
@Mackster: Beneath the beltline it reminds me of the 93-96 Fleetwood either, but the edgy door frames make me believe the original car was an earlier FWD De Ville/ Fleetwood or even a Brougham of the early 90s. Also the rear wheel arches make believe in an early 90s Fleetwood, ![]() @Ingo: No, I didn´t know the last Oldtimer Markt (the last magazine was the AutoBild Klassik incl. the feature of you and your K 70 collection ), but it could only be that light grey or blue GDR Dacia hearse prototype by a coachbuilder who currently refuses to come in my mind. A TÜV inspector once sent me a picture of that car and I furthermore know it by an older KFT issue (GDR car magazine). Anyway, thanks for this hint. ![]() In GDR, most hearses were slightly modified Barkas B 1000, of which we also list some on this site. -- Last edit: 2008-01-29 20:14:36 |

| 1985 Mercedes-Benz Bestattungswagen Stolle 'Hamburg Panorama' [W123] 23 (1998) | Yes, there were some Caprices locally built by Stolle (as well as most of the other German players like Pollmann, Rappold, Welsch...). | 1997 Ford Fairlane Hearse by Hillier Conversions [NL] Suburban Mayhem (2006) |
Could also be a Falcon with Fairlane or even LTD trim, which is a common practise down under, as well as the limousine style "custom rear end" seen on many Australian funeral coaches. I´m quite sure this body was made by "Hillier Conversions" of Tenterfield/ Queensland, AUS. My friend Al Beyer shows you two similar hearses: The Hillier Silver Wing on Falcon chassis http://mitglied.lycos.de/albeyer/346f47a0.jpg The Hillier Gold Wing on LTD chassis http://mitglied.lycos.de/albeyer/348f4b70.jpg |

| 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Funeral Coach Six Feet Under (2001-2005) |
This is an established professional car mystery and maybe this is the database to solve it for good. ![]() The hearse that was hit by the bus was in fact an older Cadillac hearse, built around the late 80s or early 90s (see rear fender style and - way more evident - door frames and windshield), but the film company carried out several modifications (incl. mounting an entire new front end) to make it look like a "modern" funeral coach, for they couldn´t or didn´t want to afford a contemporary hearse to smash. So the car is a complete bastard - or something you might call a "Greatest Hits of 90s Cadillacs all-in-one". I´m not even sure about the body, which reminds me of several coachbuilders. ![]() Any ideas what could have been the chassis most likely? |
