Anyway to tell if that is a 60 DeSoto vs. New Yorker? I guess since the side trim isn't complete front to rear, it is a 1960 Chrysler of some kind. EDIT: It's a 1960 PS1-L Fireflite 4Dr Sedan 6Pass, background car -- Last edit: 2007-11-20 04:30:37 |

| 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible Smala Sussie (2003) | I'd like to get the model name correct, just in favor of semantics. Wasn't it called Ford Galaxie 500XL? I would feel better if this car were listed that way. Nothing personal. XL500 sounds like a Mercedes-Benz or a Hyundai! | 2007-10-26 06:37 | |

I am very sorry on behalf of this poor 1983 Triumph Acclaim to have directed this discussion in this manner. I will not continue to use this page as a proxy to a private dialogue. I am deleting all of my comments, save this. Please remember that "lurking," which is doing more observing than participating as one becomes more familiar with an online community, serves a good purpose on message boards and forums. I even suggest reading other users' comments, if you have some time to kill. Click on the user's name where it is highlighted on the left of the screen, then click on "Comments posted." Sometimes you can get a good idea of where that person is coming from. Yes, putting personal info on the web is a bad idea. Note that having a username is not requisite to reading all of the comments on this page, just type "1983 Triumph Acclaim" into your favorite search engine and Voilla!. Finally, be aware that all text is taken at face value on the web, this includes emoticons (smileys). No one here, as far as I know, can read minds, and 100% of a person's ideas may not always be received clearly by someone else. That said, enjoy the site and forum; I'm sure that all of us greatly appreciate seeing new members. Happy car-spotting! Fin -- Last edit: 2007-10-26 05:51:26 |

| 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Victoria [57A] L'attentat (1966) |
The additional picture of the movie car allows for a better idea of the two-tone paint scheme, leading me to agree with Ray B. that this is likely to be a Fairlane 500 Town Victoria [57A]. Also, Ford, in the US, built six times more 57A 500 4d ht models than the 57B base Fairlane 4d ht's. I just thought that a commercial driver would have a cheaper car, but this is a non-issue being so long after it was first sold. -- Last edit: 2007-10-25 15:28:34 |

| 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Victoria [57A] L'attentat (1966) |
I was using a 2 page Ford ad from a book I have. In the ad are listed 20 models each with a small picture. There is the Ranchero, Custom 300, Fairlane, Fairlane Victoria (hardtop), Fairlane 500, Fairlane 500 Victoria, Skyliner, Country Squire (station wagon), Country Sedan (station wagon), Del Rio Ranch Wagon, Fordor Ranch Wagon, and Ranch Wagon. Firebird86: notice that in the pic of the Edsel to which you linked the decorative area on the side is below the rear door handle. I have another pic of a 58 E. Pacer here: http://www.edsel.com/pages/e58pac4h.gif With that roof rack, I was thinking it would be the base Fairlane model vs the 500. I realize that the park bench appears to form part of the vehicle trim, so that threw me for a few minutes. We'll have to accept 1958 Ford unknown, unless they sold Meteors in France(?). -- Last edit: 2007-10-25 06:53:16 |

Agree, 4-door models had "Town" in front of the name. "Club" was used on 2-door cars. So if this is correct, it would be Fairlane Town Victoria, etc. -- Last edit: 2007-10-24 08:18:09 |

I don't think De Soto, see how the trunk latch, etc. is arranged on the picture showing the rear side of a 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook Convertible. 1. How do you know its a W-series? Do all W-series have 4-wheel drive? 2. Do all W-series models have "POWER WAGON" spelled on the side of the hood? This could be from 1962 thru the first part of 1965. Note: I understand the model number is stamped on the center badge on the grille. If that says "200," then I agree there. Could this be a D-series instead? -- Last edit: 2007-10-19 13:17:55 |

| 1961 Mercury Commuter [71A] Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-1962) |
One exception to this is Lassie 1954-1973, mainly the Timmy years (57-64). The vehicles used by the main characters were Chryslser, e.g. the family first had a 57 Dodge Coronet then the next season (along with new cast for parents) a 58 Dodge step-side pickup, and the vet had a 57 or 58 Chrylser New Yorker. Supporting characters would use anything the studio could get it's hands on, however. In one episode, a doctor had a nice 59 Olds 98 Holiday with Vista-Panoramic glass, in another, a teenage girl had a 57 Bel Air convt. A 1960 Ford Country Sedan got a lot of mileage throughout one season. One episode had it belong a father whose boy lost his dog (and it died giving birth), then in the next episode it's used by the gas company to survey for a new pipeline whose construction would remove a neighbor's barn. Hard to beleive some of those shows could be as shameless as they are now, what with the Transformers movie, but often the actors in classic tv shows would perform commercials for their sponsors. Mister Ed was sponsored by Studebaker. Gold star to whoever finishes reading this. |

| Capture That Capsule (1961) |
Thank you, Raul1983. It's an Electra alright, but the 225 is very special. It has an additional chrome moulding behind the front wheel opening, as on this one: /vehicle_127176-Buick-Electra-225-4829-1959.html I had to judge your car by the wheel covers. The Invicta had similar trim, but rode on a shorter wheelbase (a quality I am not able to judge well). Invicta wheel covers: http://www.gmphotostore.com/popup.asp?number=53217559 Electra wheel covers (more pronounced "crown-like" outer ring): http://www.autocenterusa.com/59buickelectra.html Cheers mate There was a Lassie (the dog) episode that aired Jan 10, 1960 called "The Space Traveler" that had Timmy finding a space capsule on the farm. Info from http://episodes.lassieweb.org/lassie06.htm When Timmy and Don accidentally release a guinea pig from an experimental rocket, they replace it with Timmy's guinea pig Alexander the Great. But the Army that suspects the guinea pig in the rocket—and therefore Timmy and Don—was exposed to deadly radiation. -- Last edit: 2007-10-18 14:13:40 |
