echoboy ![]() | I always sort of thought that, too, but then again these Buicks were quite new at the time of the film meaning the McCallisters had just bought them recently and Buicks are still pretty expensive brand new, especially back then. I like what Chris Columbus did for this movie, though. He's said he tried to make the house look and feel like Christmas with everything being red and green and if you look at the family's cars, they match the house. The LeSabre is a red/maroon color which is pretty Christmas-like and the Electra has wooden paneling which is kind of a Christmas feel, too, since it's like pine. At least that's how I interpreted it ![]() |

| 1986 Buick Electra Estate Wagon Home Alone (1990) |
realestateross ![]() | @jettallover - I KNOW! I remember when I saw the movie noticing that! It sure seems like the location vehicle coordinators got a surprise when the pulled the cars into the on-location garage and realized they could not exit the vehicles without shimmying over to the passenger's seat and using that door... THEN to realize that there was no room left for a person to leave the garage via the main doors because of the width of the cars! Funny, because it's not like cars were a lot smaller back when this house and garage were built... you wonder what the garage designer was thinking! | 2012-08-14 22:06

G-MANN ![]() | Given how big their house is and everything you'd think the McCallisters would have something like a BMW or Mercedes (all families in John Hughes films seem quite well-off). Maybe the film crew just couldn't be bothered to get one just for this one shot. -- Last edit: 2012-05-21 02:28:22 |

| 1984 Plymouth Horizon [C2] Home Alone (1990) |
steve88fiero ![]() | Watched the movie today, this car is a 1990 model, the final year. In 1990, the outside mirrors were square shaped. In previous model years, the outside mirrors were circle shaped. Also, the 1990 model had a driver side airbag, the only Horizon to do so. You can actually see it in it's second scene of the movie as the pizza boy gets out of the car. | 2010-09-15 18:09

Tervis ![]() | I thought the car was a Talbot Horizon. My dad used to have one, and like Kenster102.5 have said, it really was the crappiest car ever.. It had pretty peculiar engine - it ran with both gas and kerosene (or petrol, I don't know which is the right term in english..:) |

| 1986 Buick Electra Estate Wagon Home Alone (1990) |
tennesseestorm ![]() | Yes, that car to the right is indeed a Buick LeSabre. Likely a 1989 or 1990 model from the looks of the taillights and since this is a 1990 movie. The wagon is probably also a 1989-1990. I cannot tell unless I see more of the side/interior. As someone mentioned, these cars added the center brake light in 1986, so its at least a 1986. In 1988 these cars (and all other 1988 GM wagons) added a wide chrome trim strip on the "C" pillars, 1989 brought rear seat shoulder belts and in 1990, they had front door mounted seat belts. | 2009-01-02 04:27

| 1986 Buick Electra Estate Wagon Home Alone (1990) |
johnraleigh ![]() | That IS a Buick LeSabre on the right. It's a 1990 LeSabre, probably a Limited. Regal for 1990 didn't have the chrome strip at the bottom of the tail lights, and the back up lights were on either side of the license plate, not at the bottom as in this picture. I used to think that the Wagon was probably the '87 Electra Estate Wagon from Adventures in Babysitting. | 2008-07-24 02:04
| 1986 Buick Electra Estate Wagon Home Alone (1990) |

antp ![]() | But is it considered as really "used" by a character (well, it is a quite minor character, and quite briefly), or still considered as a "minor action" though that there are two of these... | 2007-03-11 17:59 |
