Welcome in our middle and feel free to add your knowledge!
As you like Cadillacs you will certainly also love the web pages of Yann at http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/indx2001.htm
Here at the IMCDb you will find him, our Cadillac expert, under the name 'mrcadillac'.

For years I have looked for such a site to view these cars,
Years ago I noted that they used a 1955 Cadillac(Black) as well as a 1956 Cadillac
within the same scenes! I wrote to the studio questioning why, but never got an answer back. I assume
that filming activity required using more than 1 car or that the 1955 car did not always run well.
I knew as 1956 is by far my favorite of ALL Cadillacs. We never had one, my father owned a 1951 around this time.
I have had 1967,1987, 2000, 2001, and 2003 Cadillac all DeVille Sedans. The 1987 was called a Brougham.
I always wondered what it was (The White 1970 in the garage) never shown as driven in the movie.
Does anyone know why the Garage always looks like a HOUSE???? Instead of a garage??
Does anyone know where the house is or was or is it a stage set??
I'd have loved to own any of these cars. A secretary where I worked in Cleveland, Ohio in 1965 drove a then new
1965 Light blue Sedan DeVille, white inside! Georgeous, as as she! She was Blonde and dresses always to the 9's
perhaps even 10's! What a Wow combination. She drove Cadillacs for quite a few years, but then in the mid-70's I saw her in------an Oldsmobile Cutlass!
Any comments on these particular cars welcome. Are any of them still around??
ARichBoy!

The car on the right is another 1955 model, but there's not enough detail to determine which model.
I guess this scene was intended to depict a Cadillac dealership showroom in late 1954 or early 1955.

1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 4.5 [W109]
Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
junkman ATDAF, albeit close, your explanation is not 100% complete.

The difference between a SE and a SEL is the wheelbase. The SEL is 10cm longer than the SE, which is very obvious when you compare the rear doors. The rear passenger compartment is where the stretch was made and the doors are thus visibly longer. The 'L' denotes 'lang', meaning long in German. The only other outwardly difference is, indeed, the chrome trim around the side windows.

The difference between a W108 and a W109 is the supension. The confusing point is, that the air-suspension models (W109s) were ONLY available with the long wheelbase, whereas the coil-sprung W108s were available with BOTH wheelbases.

Hence, the following models in each series did exist:

The W108 Models where:
250S - (1965-1969)
250SE - (1965-1968)
300SE - (1965-1967)
280S - (1967-1972)
280SE - (1967-1972)
280SEL - (1968-1971)
280SE 3.5 - (1970-1972)
280SEL 3.5 - (1970-1972)
280SE 4.5 - (1971-1972)
280SEL 4.5 - (1971-1972)

The W109 Models:
300SEL - (1965-1970)
300SEL 6.3 - (1967-1972)
300SEL 3.5 - (1969-1972)
300SEL 4.5 - (1971-1972)

The car in the picture is a SEL. Whether it is a W108 or W109 cannot be determined unless we either get a glimpse of what is written on the boot lid, or a ride in the car. However, judging from the odd stance I would guess, but only guess, it is a W109.

antp BEYou could replace the main picture, as it was very small and does really not show the car very much ;) In such case the picture is there waiting for a better one.
Same for the few other cars that were there before you start adding pictures for this movie.

Isn´t that what makes it a W109, the length?

Of course it couldn´t be that simple, there are long wheelbase W108 also. Major difference seems to be in suspension, and in some cases the engines. W108 have coil suspension and W109 self-levelling air suspension. About the color I don´t know, but the wheel covers seems to be the same for both series as standard. Only external difference should be additional chrome around the windows for the W109. It looks like this one has got that, but I´m not sure. And it would fit the caracter to have a 300 SEL rather than a 280 SEL and probably the car is powered with the 3.5 or 4.5 litre engine. But that´s a guess of course.
So, if it´s a W108 it´s a 280 SEL and if it´s a W109 it´s a 300 SEL as a base, + 3.5, 4.5 or 6.3 for some of the cars.
