an_unusual_eye ![]() | definitely a 240z... the horizontal vents in the rear hatch panel below the glass make her a 1970 or an early 1971 model series I car. missing are the "240Z" sail pillar emblems, but the cars after mid-71 would have large holes left in the sail pilars if debadged. | 2012-12-31 16:03

On the second picture you can see that the rear seats have headrests. It therefor is a 1400 GLX. For one (and the most obvious) factor, that brand of toilet paper is not available in the country where the Tempo was sold (America). Then another thing, was that toilet paper brand even around when the Tempo was? And as for the 2007 Rabbit, its just like always, a Golf with a different name. ![]() |

| (archived) 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit I [Typ 17] The Woman in Red (1984) | Explorer4x4 | Yea, not much of a point to changing a good name for another market. But the odd thing is that Volkswagen also sold the Golf in America, they basically just sold the Golf here and then sold it (at the same time mind you) as the Rabbit. Personally, I am not a fan of any of Volkswagen's names. As they are either odd (Golf, Rabbit, Beetle, Gol), hard to pronounce (Touareg) or they are wimpy (Jetta). But any way, Rabbit and Gol are just plain bad. | 2007-02-03 22:35 | |

Maybe not the first gens (which were not as good looking as the Rabbit), but the second and third generations looked way better. Part of the reason I am not a big fan of the Rabbit's appearance is because I always think of a box.I prefer these: ![]() |

G-MANN ![]() | I don't like the square headlights on this US-version of the Golf and the name Rabbit is a bit of a turnoff (why did they do this?) but as for the original European Golf (with circular twin headlights) I wouldn't say the Tempo looks nicer than that. | 2007-02-03 20:10

wrenchhead ![]() | Explorer4x4: I don't think anyone minds you really liking a Tempo. Heck, I like my MG but will readily admit its a piece of crap. Everyone has their own taste and the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing. What tends to get on folks nerves is your insistence that Tempos are really great/wonderful/beautiful cars and your endless trying to convince folks to agree with you. ![]() As for sales numbers, see: http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/class/wr/article/0,17585,90340,00.html -- Last edit: 2007-02-03 19:35:30 |

| (archived) 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit I [Typ 17] The Woman in Red (1984) | Explorer4x4 | -Edmunds.com is not an official resource. TempoTopaz.com (an official club I might add) got their information STRAIGHT FROM FORD. -As for sales, that is hardly a fair comparison. Its because GM is such a horrorable, horrorable make and really only has 2 cars, but just put different grills and badges on them and calls them completely new/different that they sold more (in total). If you are going to do a fair/real comparison, you will have to put the Tempo sedan and coupe sales together (3,701,946) and the Cavalier sedan and coupe sales. You can't really count the wagon and convertible sales as Tempo did not offer them. Even if you add up all Cavaliers (all four) and all Tempos (two), the Tempo STILL SOLD MORE! Ha, I wonder what GM thought when that ten-year-old sedan beat all four of their models. Shows what people like(d) more. And Ford did offer wagons, Escorts and Taurus'. The Cavalier convertible was a complete and total worthless failure. So why would Ford want to add a Tempo or Taurus convertible? Once again, you can't compare all of GM's rebadges (because their are so many), Ford however, does not have that problem. -As for reliability, all I can say is LOL @ U! Firstly, I own a 1989 Tempo and I am the second owner. It had never had 1 problem in its entire 19 years of life. And if you read the reviews at places like Epinions.com and MSNAutos.com, almost every single one says the same thing. Extremely reliable (some even say too reliable). As for GM Cavaliers and Cavalier rebadges, I have yet to hear of a success story. -What is this difference you speak of? The Ford Tempo sits on the Ford CE14 chassis, which is a lengthened Escort (and vice versa; Escort is a shortened Tempo). They were both designed by Jack Telnack, both had similar styles and both shared engines and transmission. Only differences were small appearance changes (and I have seen a lot of people mistake Tempos and Escorts, even on IMCDb) and one offered a station wagon body (to compete with Cavalier). - The 1992 Ford Tempo GLS, and the 1992-1994 Tempo GL and LX, had a 3.0L Vulcan V6 that was rated at 135HP (130HP in 1992) and 150lb-ft of torque. The 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 had a 2.8L V6 that was rated at 125HP (thats 10HP less then the Tempo's V6). -I know what the Tempo is. But I had no idea there is a law against liking them. I too have an affection for pos cars from the 80's, even the Cavalier is a personal fave. However, even though I do like other 'econoboxes' like the Dodge Spirit, Chevy Cavalier and Chevy Corsica (which I like the best out of GM's contributions to the economy car), I do like their Ford competitors much more. |
