dmitriy79 USIs it there, guys! Mr. Lenzke is right about solid metal trim on the lower part of conical projectile flares on De Ville models. But to see exactly, you have to see side view of the car or 3/4 rear view, otherwise it is impossible to determine difference in the trim from this photo 2010-10-13 18:05

mrcadillac SXAnimatronixx is 100%correct. Vilero's info comes from James T. Lenzke's book, "Standard Catalog of Cadillac, 1903-2000". I have the Cadillac Dealer Data Book for 1958, describing in detail all major differences in the various body styles, as well as dozens of photos (from factory originals to surviving cars). The only noticeable trim difference in that area is when cars were ordered with fog lights; in that case the "solid metal trim on the lower half of the conical projectile flares" was replaced by a glass lens; the upper part covered the parking lights and the lower part covered the fog lamps). I do not understand Mr. Lenzke's reference to "a thin ridge molding in the same location" for sertain models. I really would like to view comparative photos of the two alleged different trim finishes in the loaction identified by him; am I perhaps missing something?

Animatronixx DEComment by mrcadillac, 2009-04-01 22:42 (mistakenly deleted because it appeared twice on my screen, but recovered from browser's cache)

mrcadillac wrote I don't know where "vilero" got that information, or what it really means; I certainly have not seen it before; there is no such information in the Dealer Data Book for that year; the latter lists every vivible differences between the models in the range. According to the Data Book, the "Series 62" cars have an oblong shield marked " C A D I L L A C " on the front fenders, below the trim spear, near the front door opening seam, whereas the fender shield on "De Ville" models carry the names "COUPE DE VILLE" or "SEDAN DE VILLE". In this case we could be dealing with either a "Series 62" or a "De Ville" model. To be totally precise, we would need to see the fender shield ...or the interior trim.

The text vilero is referring to obviously comes from 'Standard Catalog of Cadillac, 1903-2000' by James T. Lenzke.

The buildings in the background are in the Crystal City neighborhood, which has been built up a lot more since this film was made. The building behind the light pole is a Doubletree Hotel (it's possible it had a different name in 1978) and the structure on top of it is a rotating rooftop lounge offering views of Washington, DC, and the Potomac. 2009-04-01 22:13
