mrcadillac SXFleetwood did not make any funeral coaches in post-WW2. It's a custom job by one of the "big four" (Eureka, Hess & Eisenhardt, Miller-Meteor or Superior) on the 1969 Cadillac commercial chassis, type 69890 (156" wheel base). 2006-06-23 23:28
1963 Imperial Southampton
The Anderson Tapes (1971)
junkman UKIt is a 63 Imperial, since it has a hood ornament and lacks the square cutout in the grille that housed the Imperial mascot on the 61s. And believe me, if this was a 61, you would be absolutely positive about the fins! They reach two thirds up the window height and would be clearly visible in this shot. With the last four-door sedans built in 1960, ALL solid top 1961-63 Imperials are Southamptons (apart from the ultra-rare Ghia Limos). I can see through the rear window adjacent the c-pillar, so this is NOT a LeBaron, which would have the mail slot backlight.

This is a 1963 Imperial Southampton and it is impossible to tell if it's a Custom or Crown from this photo.

1963 Imperial Southampton
The Anderson Tapes (1971)
royalimperial USThe non-split grill rules out 1962, and the fine mesh and lack of a large eagle in the middle point towards 1961. I think I can see fins at the back. I'd say about 85% sure it's a 1961 Crown or Southhampton. The LeBaron has a smaller rear window, and that one wraps around. 2006-03-31 07:25

I think the picture ratio is a little off and makes the car look more narrow than it actually is. At least, its beginning to look like we all agree that its a Fiat.

ben68 BEThe more I look at the the pic, the more I think it's an early Fiat 124 Spider... (lights, the way the rear wings are cut and built, etc.)

I have to agree Ben 68, Fiat (124) Spider was my first thought seeing the car. Even the badge to the top-left of the rear licence plate is just visible, I think, on the car in the movie.

Regarding the Alfa Romeo Spider, Wrenchhead and TheDriver....

Up to 1969 the boat-tailed spider was only available and its not this car in the movie. In 1970 Alfa did not import cars in the US because of tightening emissions standards, this was the year the Kamm-tailed cars were introduced.

The movie was released in 1971 so the first Kamm-tailed cars would have only been available in the US in that year. Unlikely, but just possible these could appear in the movie. These cars however had integrated heavier looking bumpers (three times the depth of the earlier bumper or those of the Fiat 124). These extended beyond the full width of the car and would have been easily visible in the movie. In 1973-74 the 5-mph bumpers introduced. I'm 95% sure this is not an Alfa Spider even though they were very popular and appeared in a lot of movies. In this case I think it was a Fiat 124 Spider.

1966-1969: Duettos and other "boat-tails" - Series 1
1970-1974: The first Kamm tails, - Series 2
1975-1981: US Market Kamm tails - Series 2a
