1940 KhPZ T-34 as Tiger I
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
Kooshmeister USFake or not, I adore these tanks. They were my favorites when I was a kid. There are three of them in the end sequence: 112, 113 and 115.

Tiger 115 is the main one, the one used by Karl Otto Alberty's character who Clint Eastwood and the gang have a high-noon showdown with and the only one to survive the movie:

[Image: tiger1f.th.jpg][Image: tiger2g.th.jpg][Image: tiger5.th.jpg][Image: tiger6.th.jpg][Image: tiger7.th.jpg]

Tiger 113 is the "supporting" tank whose commander was killed by the American sniper at the beginning of the battle while poking out of the turret, which gets shot "in the ass" after being accidentally blasted with paint-filled shells:

[Image: tiger8.th.jpg][Image: tiger9.th.jpg][Image: tiger10.th.jpg][Image: tiger12.th.jpg]

Tiger 112, featured in the main pic, does nothing. It gets blasted right at the beginning of the battle and spends the remainder of the film a burning wreck. At the end, after the town is liberated and the fire has died down, some children climb on it. Which kind of bugs me considering the dead crew must still be inside of it. Hope the kids don't get too curious and try to open the hatch.

If you look closely you can see the cable pulling the Kubel in front of the halftrack prior to the explosion. It looks like a mockup, rather than a real Kubel. Also somehow it turns around after being blown up!

1947 TAM Pionir
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
SMIGI SIThis film is set in the Second World War. TAM was established in 1947, two years after the Second World War. Pionir should not be in this film. I reckon that they wanted to replace the Opel Blitz, which has very similar. Error is in the film - not here. ;)

Cheers. :)

1942 International Harvester M5 Halftrack
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
petep UKIt is deffinatley an International M5 and not a White M3. The easiest ways to tell are the mudguards which (although very bent here) are very basic bent bits of metal on the M5, where as on the M3 they were very well formed. Also the rear corners are curved on an International, rather than the White's which are completley square, you can't see it in these pics but it is clearer in the film.

The Gun conversion is likley to be a local (Yugoslav) modification, as most of the armour in the film was leased in from the Yugoslav Army.

Kelly's Heroes (1970)
petep UKIt is impossible to tell without being able to see the foundry marks or dataplates, there were loads of different compnies producing Shermans during the war. Apparently most of the remanufacturing to accomodate the 76mm gun was undertaken by Rock Island Arsenal and Bowen-McLaughlin-York Co between them. 2008-10-07 15:46
GMC CCKW
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
4x4peru USThe side cover vents on the Chevy are different. Some CCKWs were fitted w/ early "super singles" as it provided better flotation in sand. The front wheel pictured is wider than stock CCKW. Agree the bumper could be a modification.

There are three more elsewhere in the film, although sadly I haven't got the DVD at the moment so I can't make caps myself, but whoever does can find them in the following spots:

1. During the journey through the town that's being bombed, a Kubel is blown to bits and almost run into by one of the American halftracks (specifically, the one with Big Joe).
2. During Oddball's assault on the railway, a parked Kubel is shown sitting a few feet away from a violent explosion of a train, but remarkably survives.
3. In the town at the end, there's a Kubel parked outside "the brown building behind the bank." It's in several shots, and, like the Kubel at the railway, survives an explosion that goes off mere feet from it (in this case, the building it's parked in front of gets blown up).

petep UKThey are M4A3E4 Shermans, which were standard M4A3s which were upgunned after the war with 76mm guns, hence the fact they look longer than 75mm guns. They were all serving Yugoslav tanks when the film was produced. 2008-02-20 17:58
Kelly's Heroes (1970) FockeWulf USI'm not familiar with the Soko 522. But I'll bet those are AT-6 (Naval version SNJ) Texan trainers. They frequently stand in (poorly) for Zeroes before De Havilland of Canada built the replica Zeroes for "Tora! Tora! Tora!" They are just anonymous enough flashing quickly by in strafing scenes to represent a generic attack aircraft. Sure would like to see something besides Mustangs trotted out for the Allied air forces to the rescue, but let's face it, those birds are harder and harder to come by. 2007-10-05 23:47

Kelly's Heroes (1970)
Alexander DEIt actually is the International Harvester M5. The M2 and M3 (plus derivations) had rounded wings. With this gun it tries to impersonate the T48 Gun Motor Carriage, which incidently was never used by the US but the Soviet army. 2006-05-06 02:23
1941 White M2 Halftrack as Sd.Kfz.251
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
Alexander DEIt is definitely base on a US halftrack, which were produced by White, Autocar, Diamond T, and International Harvester.

The military numbers for these vehicles were
M2 (Autocar, White)
M3 (Autocar, Diamond T, White)
M5 (International Harvester)
M9 (International Harvester)
plus special versions
M4 (White)
M13 (Autocar, Diamond T, White)
M14 (International Harvester)
M15 (Autocar)
M16 (White)
M17 (International Harvester)
M21 (White)
T48 (Diamond T)

It is impossible to say on which version and thus which producer this conversion is based. As White designed the halftracks and most of White's halftracks were M2 I will use that name.

junkman wrote Interesingly, I only found International Harvester as a manufacturer.

... and that is absolutely correct.

The M numbers were allocated within a group of vehicles. There was an M5 light tank, M5 halftrack, M5 bulldozer and this M5 tractor -- all at the same time. That the halftrack and the tractor were produced by the same company is a mere coincidence.
