| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
14stutz ![]() | According to a story about the "Smart" car's customizer, Gene Winfield, the car used in "Get Smart" was badged as a Tiger but was actually a regular Alpine...because there was a machine gun that popped out of the bonnet and it would not fit in a car with the Ford V-8 engine. I don't recall the special features being used in the series (a clear take-ff of the Bond Aston Martin's modifications). But they did make a plastic model kit of it in t he USA. |

| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
gswaybright ![]() | This car was the lead charactor's (Maxwell Smart) car for the first few years of the show. It should have 4 stars. The car was known as a sunbeam tiger in most countries. I beleive in one european country (perhaps Germany) it was called an Alpine V8 due to ownership rights to the Tiger name there. | 2007-03-09 23:44

| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
antp ![]() | I've read that there was also the opposite problem: Renault cannot sell Alpine in UK since Alpine is not their property there... -- Last edit: 2005-12-04 18:43:44 |

| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
Alexander ![]() | Not necessarily! I usually check the marque clubs, as in book I usually find a lot of mistakes. Web-pages are easier to maitain and correct, if needed. They certainly owned the rights in the UK, else they hadn't used those names at all. But it might be a different story for France with the Renault Alpines on the market. |

| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
antp ![]() | Maybe it depends on the country? I remember that the Alpine name is not owned by the same companies in all countries... | 2005-12-04 18:22
| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
sixcyl ![]() | Depending on what "litterature" you consider Alexander, in mine it says "Alpine Tiger" but maybe yours is more accurate on that point? -- Last edit: 2005-12-04 18:18:37 |

| 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Series I Get Smart (1965-1970) |
Alexander ![]() | The Sunbeam Tiger is based on the Alpine but didn't use 'Alpine' as part of the name. The versions are: Mk.I : June 64 to Aug 65 Mk.Ia : Aug 65 to Dec 66 Mk.II : Dec 66 to Jun 67 As it is a 1965 TV series this must be a Mk.I. |
