| 1958 Triumph TR3A The Green Helmet (1961) |
Bebert ![]() | Il me semble distinguer le lettrage "Triumph" sur la malle arrière, ce qui en fait une TR3A 1958+. | 2009-04-25 14:37
| 1960 Gordon-Keeble GT The Green Helmet (1961) |
rynd2it ![]() | Update, I emailed the club and here's the reply I got >>>>> Hi David, Thanks for the email and good wishes. The car featured in "The Green Helmet" is indeed what we know as the (G-K) Prototype - Strictly speaking it was / is the one and only "Gordon GT"...which had a steel body, 4.6 litre engine, and other differences in detail - but parked alongside its later siblings it would blend very well... I'm not sure of the exact reason but during filming the car wore the Reg HLW 493 rather than its true identity, 472 LKX. |

| 1960 Gordon-Keeble GT The Green Helmet (1961) |
rynd2it ![]() | As a past owner of one of these beasts (No. 72) - IMHO this HAS to be the prototype for several reasons. 1) It's 1961 and the first production car was 1964 2) The turn indicator was only like this on the prototype 3) Careful examination of the bodywork just above the front bumper clearly shows a 'fold' or moulding in the body work - the prototype was metal, all the production cars were fiberglass and did not have this feature. 4) The hood (bonnet) scoop is wider on the productions cars - still a dummy though! I suspect the 'badge' and the license plate are from the film-makers, it'll be interesting to see what Charles Giles (Club Historian) makes of this. Extra clue: - the hood scoop goes all the way back to the windshield on the prototype - it tapers on production cars Now I'll have t find a copy of the movie! -- Last edit: 2008-12-07 02:18:16 |

| 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Vignale Spider The Green Helmet (1961) | chammo | Mike Hawthorn/Azelio Cappi in Mille Miglia 1953 all right, but the car is a 250 MM (Vignale Spider). They are followed by Bruno Sterzi/Giulio Rovelli in another 250 MM (Pininfarina Coupe) and Alberico Cacciari/R.H.B. Mason in a 166 MM (Ferrari-Autodromo Spider). #608 is Tom Cole's 340 MM (Vignale Spider) - same bodystyle but different mechanicals compared to Hawthorn's car. I think Hawthorn got his ride from Bobbie Baird, who was an Irishman. | 2008-11-03 17:27 | |

| 1959 Lister Jaguar Costin The Green Helmet (1961) |
Sunbar ![]() | More about 'The Green Helmet' Lister WTM446 as here... "Something of a marque exponent, Coundley owned several Lister-Jaguars including a `twin-tube' car road registered as `WTM 446' that was crashed and severely damaged by Stephen Ouvaroff on the set of the MGM film, `The Green Helmet'." edit: after further research Two cars supposedly were registered as WTM446 1959 open car Lister Jaguar owned by Bill Moss 1963 space-frame closed car raced at Le Mans by Peter Sargent and Peter Lumsden In a letter to the DVLA outlining the GT Prototype's history Doug Nye wrote: "My researches lead me to believe that - while the registration `WTM 446' - was first applied in 1959 to an open-cockpit Costin-bodied sports-racing Lister-Jaguar owned by Bill Moss - this registration was plainly transferred for the Le Mans 24-Hour race to the entirely different design `spaceframe' Lister-Jaguar Coupe co-driven by Peter Sargent and Peter Lumsden http://www.classic-auctions.com/pubtendetail.php?lotid=25698&aucid=26227 Later still it was the subject of a dispute between two owners claiming ownership of the chassis and registration, which dates from 1959, as follows... "Allen Lloyd and Stefan Svenby have been in dispute for four years over the right to display the number plate WTM 446 and the chassis number BHL 126 on their 1959 Lister Jaguars. The two men left court at the end of February after a judge told them it was not his business to settle such quarrels. Mr Lloyd, whose fortune was generated by the Lloyds Pharmacy chain, sued Mr Svenby, as a result of conflicting desires by each man to lay claim to the original car that bore the disputed ID marks. That particular vehicle had not only raced in the 1963 Le Mans 24-hour race, but was also the star of the classic British racing film, The Green Helmet. Mr Lloyd claimed that Mr Svenby's car, a Lister Jaguar of a type known as the Spaceframe, was a “reconstituted wreck” and a “copy built from a kit of parts”. In response, Mr Svenby said that the other man's vehicle had been crashed soon after its Le Mans race and had lost the right to the chassis number because it spent 20 years off the road, being rebuilt." The closed coupe car is also listed on IMCDb here vehicle.php?id=182973 -- Last edit: 2008-10-23 12:27:30 |

| 1960 Gordon-Keeble GT The Green Helmet (1961) |
greybear ![]() | I thought it was the prototype because it has a combined turn indicator and sidelight whereas all the other examples have separate ones. But it does have a badge and the prototype doesn't. But if it isn't the prototype then it should be listed as a Gordon-Keeble, shouldn't it? | 2008-10-23 01:49

| 1960 Gordon-Keeble GT The Green Helmet (1961) |
nzcarnerd ![]() | It is not the prototype - the plate is different, the protoype was registered 472LKX - see here - http://www.gordonkeeble.org.uk/html/_the_gordon_gt-_the_prototype.html.
