| GMC CCKW 353 Sea of Sand (1958) |
JavierDiesel ![]() | I'd say a GMC CCKW-353, not a Dodge WC (that was a samller 4x4, with a narrow and very rounded grille). | 2012-09-28 22:11
| Daimler Ferret Scout Car Modified for Movie Sea of Sand (1958) |
JavierDiesel ![]() | Wow, this is surely a 1950's British Army Ferret Armoured Car, with a mock-up structure. The shape of the mudguards, wheels, spare wheel mount(empty, on the left side), headlights and smoke launchers are typical of the Ferret. -- Last edit: 2012-10-27 01:01:51 |

| Morris-Commercial MRA1 Sea of Sand (1958) |
JavierDiesel ![]() | I'm sure that's a Morris Commercial MRA1, a British Army 1ton 4x4 light truck from the 50's. | 2012-09-28 22:03

| Morris-Commercial MRA1 Sea of Sand (1958) |
Treehugger ![]() | Not the same as either the Chevrolet or Dodge trucks used in the film, as the headlamp shells are different from both. Possibly a genuine wreck left over from WW2? -- Last edit: 2012-05-27 11:26:48 |

| Daimler Ferret Scout Car Modified for Movie Sea of Sand (1958) |
Treehugger ![]() | This could be intended to be a Fiat AB41, but there are many differences. Information and photos of the AB41 and other Italian armoured cars at: http://the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_Italian_Armoured_Cars.pdf The closeup of the gun turret shows it is covered in what looks like thin metal sheeting. Possibly a Daimler Dingo with false bodywork. -- Last edit: 2012-05-27 11:00:01 |

| Dodge T-110 Sea of Sand (1958) |
Treehugger ![]() | Information (in French) on the Canadian-built Dodge T-110 trucks, with many photos: Link to "www.asphm.com" These trucks have been modified for the film, to look like the Chevrolet 1533x2. The cab has been cut off, and the horizontal slats on the grille removed and replaced by vertical ones. -- Last edit: 2012-05-27 10:48:04 |

| 1941 Chevrolet 1533x2 30 cwt Sea of Sand (1958) |
Treehugger ![]() | These are the correct model of truck as used in WW2 by the Long Range Desert Group. From http://lrdg.hegewisch.net/lrdgvehicles.html : "The 1533x2 used by the LRDG were purpose built military modifications of the 1 ½ ton YR series Chevrolet trucks. These modifications included a special truck bed as well as modifications to cab, front grill and suspension. Further modifications were made to the trucks once they reached the LRDG machine shops. Because the trucks were being made for the British Army they were now right hand drive. The popular "water fall" grill of the civilian truck was replaced by a grill with fewer slats to allow better air flow." Presumably there were not enough genuine Chevrolets available to make the film as some of the trucks used are Dodges modified to resemble the Chevrolet.
