SteveAshton ![]() | It is most certainly a 5/6 HP Clyno V twin with Vickers machine gun sidecar. The picture is transposed as the sidecar should be on the left of the vehicle. Will be 1916/17 more likely. | 2009-09-03 19:40

Alexander ![]() | New information I have learned shows that this is the earlier Mark IV version from 1917. The shape of the front observation slits are different to the Mark V, which you can see here: /vehicle_135715-Metropolitan-Carriage-and-Waggon-Mark-V-1918.html | 2007-10-31 13:23

Ingo ![]() | Which army has used this truck in the WWII? It's obviously much older. The shape of the fenders and the wheels (with airless full-rubber-tires) are typical for cars and trucks around the WW I As I have been told, the German Wehrmacht hasn't required such old transportation-material. |

| 1915 Leyland A Type 3-Ton 'Subsidy' World War I in Colour (2003) |
Sunbar ![]() | "Subsidy" vehicles actually date from 1912 when the British government paid a subsidy to owners of vehicles that qualified. They would receive £50 on purchasing a vehicle and an annual subsidy for three years of £20. The vehicle was expected to be maintained in good order and would be available for purchase at 72 hours notice, in the event of war, at current market value plus 25%. Vehicles were arranged in two classes, 30cwt and 3 tons, and Leyland vehicles were the only ones which qualified in both classes, | 2007-09-29 17:42

sixcyl ![]() | ... sorry to correct you junkman, but it's not the Type AG1 aka "taxi de la Marne" as it might pretend in this movie. The AG1 was a much smaller vehicle. This vehicle, has the Radiator grill placed at 1/3 of the lenghth between "windscreen" and extremity of the bonnet , and two lateral windows ... If it is a Renault, what I'm not sure at 100% because of bonnet shape and headlights high position (see thumbnail) it could be a 1912 Type CD 18CV Coupé Labourdette , or 1914 Type DG/EF 12CV Coupé These old Renault are very difficult to recognize ... |

| 1917 Metropolitan Carriage and Waggon Mark IV female World War I in Colour (2003) |
Alexander ![]() | Is it a real problem to make the field longer, i.e. does it need more space on the server? (It shouldn't, but some programmes do.) A shortend name could be confused with 'MCW' = 'Metro Cammell Weymann', which was formed in 1932 by Weymann Motor Bodies and Metro-Cammell's bus body-building division. 'Metro-Cammell' in long is the 'Metropolitan Cammell Carriage and Wagon' (MCCW) which was formed in 1929 after Vickers Ltd. and Cammell Laird and Co. merged their railway-building divisions. Vickers part was the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company, founded in 1919, after Vickers took over the British Westinghouse factories from US control. This was done with help from the Metropolitan Carriage, Wagon and Finance Company, which used this name since 1912. Here is a 'family tree' of MCW: http://metcam.co.uk.nstempintl.com/famtree.htm All these are not connected to the Metropolitan Carriage and Waggon Company, which was a company belonging to Sir William Tritton, the famous co-designer of the first British tanks. He was at the time manging director of William Foster & Co Ltd., an agricultural machinery company. Quite confusing, I agree, especially as quite a few 'Metropolitan Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Ltd.' and 'Metropolitan Amalgamated Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Ltd.', earlier names of the 'Metropolitan Carriage, Wagon and Finance Company', are wrongly being referred to as 'Metropolitan Carriage and Wagon'. They were not shortend by us but by the companies themselves. -- Last edit: 2006-07-16 14:05:42 |

Alexander ![]() | As most reference pictures are almost as blurred as this one identification is tricky. I would say it is, like the other one (/vehicle_41926-Metropolitan-Carriage-and-Mark-V-1918.html), a Mark V build by the Metropolitan Carriage and Waggon Company. It is known that some were captured and used by the Imperial German forces. |

| 2006-07-15 13:18
