| 1947 Harley-Davidson EL Police Big Jim McLain (1952) |
RedKnuck ![]() | No doubt the bikes are "big-twins", and the "springer" type of forks narrows it down to pre-1949. (1949 and up big twins has hydraulic forks). I cannot see the engine very well, but it looks tall and the shape of the tanks agree with that it is an OHV engine. (The sidevalve engine has a perfect symmetrical teardrop shaped thank whilst the OHV model tank is slightly flatter on the bottom side to give room for the taller OHV engine). So depending of the year it would be a "Knucklehead" engine (last year 1947) or a "Panhead engine" (first year 1948). But the nodel designation would be the same, model EL for the 1000cc OHV and FL for the 1200cc OHV versions. Since it was made much more FL's than EL's at the time my guess is that the bikes are 1947 or 1948 Harley-Davidson model FL's (1200cc OHV). | 2010-06-21 04:21

4x4peru ![]() | Difficult to call this an M38. No aux battery cover on the cowling! Not a clear view of any pioneer tool slots. No headlight guard, no military lights. Could be removed? Civilian style top. I think this is a Willys CJ3A with the spare & fuel can moved to the rear...very common. A driver side view would be decisive. |

| 1951 De Soto Diplomat Custom Hardtop Coupe [SP-23] Big Jim McLain (1952) |
pilou ![]() | Yes , I checked and the front chrome strip extending from the grille to the front wheel arches is DeSoto rather than Plymouth and would make it a DeSoto Diplomat Custom hardtop coupe SP-23 of 1951.Being a north american movie scene , the only possibility would indeed be a Canadian car but it would of course be interesting to know where exactly the shot was made.In any case this looks interesting because DeSoto Diplomats are rare and early hardtop versions must be extremely rare.Good spotting. | 2007-03-09 12:32
