Lateef ![]() | I guess it's the same reason they continued making films, they figured that they couldn't make it through the war without them. The "few" worthy cars that were available were pressed into service, and the rest became reserved for important people in the society. I don't think they went out of their way and scrapped all American cars they could find. Sure, they had to scrap quite a few of their cars, but not because they were American, they needed the steel. That's also why pre-war Japanese cars are pretty much non-existant today. They got rid of baseball and jazz because it was seen as American culture. American cars didn't pose as much "damage" as baseball and jazz posed. The American driving culture is one thing, but American cars on their own, not so much. Also, more than half of all cars registered in Japan at the time were of American origin, the other half were locally made cars partially based on American cars. |

Q-Ball ![]() | i wonder why it's still there? During the war, the Empire of Japan went through an interest "purification" process, targeting all things western from Baseball to jazz music, and I figured american-made cars would be no exception. |

Lateef ![]() | I would've said yes, if it wasn't for the fact that the doorhandle on this one is located between two moulding strips, whereas the one on the Toyota KB is located below the moulding. | 2012-06-11 23:17 | |

nzcarnerd ![]() | The car in the thumbs is different to the main picture. In the thumbs is a circa 1938 Chrysler product. The main picture, I think, is a 1934 Ford V8 with an acceessory trunk and aftermarket =- maybe Goopdyear or Firestone? 16 inch wheels. It also appears to have its windshield propped open. -- Last edit: 2012-06-11 21:41:53 |
