ingo wrote no, by the indicators on the fender its an older one, pre-1975. exactly a 1974-model (1200 sedan, no 1303-super beetle, but elephant-foot-backlamps).

We have fender mounted turn signal/parking/side marker lamp assembly until end of the export to USA market. I understand that elsewhere market moved from fender to bumper lamp assembly after 1975.

Diesel Jim CALook just in front of the right front wheel well, behind the turn signal. There looks to be a small badge there. It is harder to notice because of the mud, but it's there. That badge indicates the HEMI engine. That body style was introduced in 2002, you are 100% correct about that. However, the HEMI wasn't offered until 2003.

One other feature unique to the 2002's is the "SLT" badge being mounted on the doors. They were about level with the bottom of the windows.

taxiguy USWell then default to 2000 then, if you're sure that it can't be a 98 or 99. Or 1998 if you're unsure, but put something there for the year, it's a whole lot better than nothing.

ingo DEno, by the indicators on the fender its an older one, pre-1975. exactly a 1974-model (1200 sedan, no 1303-super beetle, but elephant-foot-backlamps).

@rljuna2: these wheels (steel, not aluminium or magnesium) were an optional extra. at first released in end of 1972 for the "gelb-schwarzer renner", a 1303-special model. later on available for all other typ 1, too.
a page about that special model: http://www.gelb-schwarzer-renner.com/

at last again annother ingo-anecdote :)
once i had the chance to drive such a rare "gsr". a friend, who had my all-day-passat in his garage, gave his loved gsr to me as a spare-car, because i needed a car (he is no.73 on the "gsr"-owner-list). i knew about its rarity - but i didnt felt really comforatable: it was in a cold winter, and if "gelb-schwarzer renner" or not, the heating was not better as in regular 1303 super beetles :/

I know that those chrome rims indicate either R/T or SXT trim, but I don't know which one. Does anybody else know? The year range for this car would have to depend on what trim it is.

Sounds good to me. Hey, I remember when UPS's primary vans were Ford P-Series trucks with 1954 Ford grilles. I always thought the ones they've had for the past 40 years or so were evolved from them.

antp BEI've heard or read (maybe here actually :D) that in Europe they used VW basis previously.
Recently in Belgium I saw a UPS MB with standard body, as you described Alex.

If UPS is the exclusive user would it really be wrong to list that as UPS make? Or we would have to find who makes these for them...

In Germany they used Mercedes-Benz chassis, today standard MB vans without extra bodywork design.

antp wrote We could list that as "UPS" maker then...

No, as UPS is not the manufacturer, even if those vans are exclusively made for them.
