Gag Halfrunt UKBut the film was made in Canada. Perhaps the made for MEX was added to all Ford Topaz entries in a batch correction. As I said earlier, perhaps this car is just a Mercury Topaz with a replacement grille. 2011-09-05 20:11

CRAFT372 USThis car looks freaking awesome and it's a real shame that it has not bin used in any other movie then this and it was not even used that much in the movie I expected that this car was going to play a bigger part in the movie specealy because it is supose to be a super spy car or something like it but we only see it in the back ground at the workshop and Cody arriving at the harbor in it comeone movie I want to see this baby in real action like in a car chase or something like but enough about that i just found and artikel about this car on this website http://www.motherearthnews.com/Green-Transportation/1979-09-01/Silver-Volt.aspx and acording to the website the car is from about 1979 or 1980

Topazmercury CAclearly a topaz (i own 16) but you can tell its been tampered with #1.the chrome trim on the rear c pillar is brighter than the rest of the trim on the car, #2.the grille can be switched with 2 screws so whoever owned the car from its production date could have switched the grille, #3.if you look closely at the chrome center caps on the rims "where are the bolts" 2 generation 1988-1991 topazs most of the time came with steel rims with center caps and trim rings, steel rims with wheelcovers and polycast rims. topazs and tempos with the trim rigs and centercaps came with long chrome lug nuts on the wheels and steel rims with wheelcovers came with the normal lug nuts, so its so easy to se that over the cars life it's had parts swaped out from a tempo. 2009-11-09 02:59

antp BEOr a Topaz that once was imported by someone from Mexico? (e.g. a Mexican that came to Canada?)
But indeed the replaced grille is more likely for this kind of "cheap" car.

antp BE"EV" just means "Electric Vehicle", I doubt that it is the make. Should we list it as Apollo make? Or just "Silver Volt" as make rather than model?

benny ITI have seen this movie. This car was used in the driving school scene. You can se very well the Ford blue oval on the front grille, on the only wheelcovers that it had, and on the rear, near the badge "Topaz L". I googled for curiosity "Ford Topaz", and I discovered that it existed in Mexico: was a Ford-rebadged Mercury Topaz! :D
Link to "www.google.it"

Well, maybe this one was only a Mercury with Ford badge... ;)

By the way, in this scene were seen in background two Jaguar XJ (XJ40 and X300) and a grey Mercedes-Benz W116. :)

Explorer4x4Topaz had:
L (as proved, and L was the base model sedan)
GS (mid-class)
GS-AWD (all wheel drive mid-class)
LS (luxury)
LS-AWD (all wheel drive, luxury)
LTS (sport)
XR5 (sport)

This is a second generation (pre-facelifted, 1988-1991) Mercury Topaz L.

The trim and front end prove its a second generation, the rims prove it is a base model L and the C-pillar prove its a Mercury Topaz.

Explorer4x4YES it did. Ug, this is getting quite old you know. For one fact, here is a Mercury Topaz L base model. And then on TempoTopaz.com they also list Topaz L models.
Whats the letter by the Topaz badge. Tell me. :p

From 1984 to 1992 Ford offered 'L' badged Tempos and Topaz' as the base model, with absolutely no fancy things. Just a stripped down model, sold mainly as commercial cars, such as DRIVING SCHOOL CARS.

moparguy1973 USI am not really big into the early 80s Mopars, but I could definitely buy the argument that it's a custom Mopar. Could be a Challenger/Sapporo (this one is most likely), Charger, Omni 024, or Plymouth Horizon TC3...in is definitely not a Delorean. 2006-12-30 06:26

explorer4x4 wrote Third generation (2002-2005) Ford Explorer Limited.

You got the years right, it is a 2002 through 2005 model; but it’s not a Limited Edition… It’s equipped with the XLT trim level package.
Limited Edition Ford Explorers’ make their self’s known by color-keyed body panels, large chrome clad wheels and chrome accents…

This is a 2002 through 2005, Ford Explorer Limited Edition…
[Image: feleko6.1297.jpg]

The 2002 through 2005 Ford Explorers’ were offered in a array of trim level packages’ that featured their own unique look. There were five trim levels that consisted of the XLS, XLT, NBX Edition, Eddie Bauer Edition and Limited Edition. (Arranged in order of price range from least expensive to most expensive) ;)

dwc43 USThere's one thing about it, it aint a Dodge Charger or any other type of Dodge. After staring at it for a while I think it's the Challenger/Sapporo Mitsubishi with some sort of nose added on to it. The mirrors are correct for that car and so are the 4 headlights. 2006-10-22 08:42

Explorer4x4The abse Tempo model was S, followed by mid-class GS mid-class model, the LS model was the luxury model and the XR5/LTZ were the sport models. Just like the Tempo had the L (base) model, the GL mid-class, the LX luxury, the AWD all wheel GL model and the GLS sport model.

antp BESeeing the size/proportions, I doubt it could be a DeLorean. Any other coupé of the 80s would be easier to transform.
The only common points with DeLorean is the color and the headlighs (which were US standard sealedbeams).
